I’m so happy and pleased to have these guys as my opticians. I’ve been with specsavers for years(in Australia) and have never has an issue. And so the streak continues. Upon arrival for my initial appointment, I was promptly seen to and had my eyes checked. The lovely lady explained to me each step which I thought was nice, especially if you’ve never had puffs of smoke blown in your eyes– it can be quite the uncomfortable experience! After a 5 minute wait post eye-check, I was then seen by a super chipper optician named Miguel. He took me through further testing and gave such a clear explanation as to the next steps after some friendly banter. Agreeing that I needed new glasses, I was left on my own to browse for about 10 minites. As soon as I had picked my frames I was assisted by another woman who helped with fitting and costs, and an appointment was made for the following week. Fast forward one week, I was seen to straight away to get my glasses. No issues, same great service. Really, I could not reccomend these guys enough. Service was fantastic and it seemed to operate like a well oiled machine with people coming in and out at just the right time. Every staff member I interacted with was friendly and so helpful. In terms of the shop itself, its spacious and very clean so I’m guessing there may have been a refurbished based on previous reviews. These guys will have my business for years to come, I cannot compliment their customer service enough. Oh and my glasses are fab and I’m looking fly now in case you were wondering.

An absolute horror of an opticians. Avoid like the plague. I’ve used Specsavers for the best part of a decade now, and they used to be rather good, but this Shandwick Place branch is a total joke. I went in for an eye test recently and was less than five minutes late, but was told that I would have to book another appointment because I missed my slot. Ok, fair enough, the fault was mine. So I had to wait another WEEK for the next available appointment and I showed up ten minutes early. I was then forced to wait over 20 minutes past the time of my appointment to be seen. The receptionist staff were rude and dismissive and I felt almost completely ignored. While I was sat waiting, I had plenty of time to examine my surroundings, which are worn and poorly maintained, with grubby flooring and stains all over the seats. Eventually the optician came to see me. He was in such a rush that our whole appointment lasted probably less than five minutes. Perhaps it’s just my lack of knowledge of modern eye-test procedures, but I didn’t feel confident that an accurate measurement of my sight was taken at all. I returned a week later for a contact-lens fitting, and the situation was even worse. The staff were so rude and discourteous that I couldn’t believe it. There were also at least three separate staff that either coughed or sneezed on me. A lady(not an optician) gave me a new pair of contact lenses. She didn’t tell me anything about the brand, type, prescription. Just«here, put these in». And then began another long wait. I watched the staff run around in front of me like headless chickens for about 20 minutes before an optician came for me. This new optician had no clue why I was there, what my history was or what he should do with me. He didn’t even know if I was there for a sight-test or lens fitting or a kick up the back-side. He asked me what kind of contact lenses I was wearing and I nearly screamed in frustration when I had to explain that his assistant lady had just given me lenses and told me to put them in my eyes without telling me anything about them and now even this guy doesn’t know what’s going on either! He presented me with a card with some text on it, asked if I could read it, and then sent me out the door. A complete waste of time. So here I sit, a month later, still wearing those same lenses and none the wiser as to my prescription. I’ve tried calling them but I get put through to some call-centre because the branch is too busy to take my calls. I am as baffled as I am infuriated by the incompetence and lack of professionalism in this place. Part of the problem is doubtless the pressure the staff are under to turn customers around as fast as possible and run bookings extremely tightly. The other part of the problem is that nobody seems to give a shit. If you want to get your eyes seen in a place that will give you some sort of confidence in the outcome, go elsewhere.

Not the best at all. Frame are cheap and nasty and they all look the same. Very sad selection. Took my test and went to 2020 in Queen street. WOW amazing selection the best I have seen. Will not be back to the Corporate savers…

My favourite eye care place in Edinburgh. Always has super friendly service and great deals on contacts and glasses. I think they might be the cheapest as well. So for you four-eyes like me go here or any of the companies store chains all around the city!

I have come to realise that quite a few of the chain stores I frequent all host their larger branches in the West End, and on Shandwick Place. I’m registered with the Specsavers on North Bridge, and if you were to look up that review, you’d know I’m not overly enamoured with the customer service. Once again I went in to get new contact lenses there and they had none in stock. Again. So I ordered some in. They didn’t come in on time. So I asked for my prescription so I could get them elsewhere as I needed them for an upcoming 2 week trip. I was told they could phone the other Specsavers branch and they had some in stock. Voila. So down I popped to Shandwick Place and wow, it’s bigger. Far bigger. Bigger selection of glasses, more staff, different desks for different requirements. The staff were really friendly and efficient too. I can’t say I spent long enough in the shop to give it a fair review, but I already think I prefer this branch to the other one and despite that it’s further away from my flat than the other one I think I might switch. Clarity of vision!

I’ve been going here for years. They are so helpful and friendly and have never tried to get me to buy a pair of glasses that I can’t afford. I’ve also had contact lenses from here and I’ve been even more impressed, lots of tips and always smiling at a nervous me!
