Cobbs Marchmont

Was here this afternoon as part of my work. It was charming, rammed full of delicious looking cakes and amazing smelling coffee.
Seems like the type of place you could spend all day in with a great book.

We were looking for a place to get coffee and a bite which would fit two buggies. A tall order! My friend spotted Cobbs and a quick glance in the door revealed a spacious and charmingly decorated café which even sports a kid-​sized easel, indicating to us that our buggies wouldn’t be looked at with disdain.
We were right. It seemed that Cobbs’ main clientele are students (parked with laptops and coffee) and mums (with buggies, coffee and cake).
Sandwiches are displayed pre-​heating which makes them come very quickly once ordered and is great. We also passed gorgeous scones and drooled over a huge selection of tray bake type sweets. Presentation of everything was gorgeous.
We both really enjoyed every aspect of our visit bar one niggle: the toilets. In a place which sets such a high design standard I was surprised to find the toilets dingy, cold and overall pretty neglected. A new floor and a lick of paint would do wonders!
But overall, a great wee place.

We are visiting the area from the U.S., and Cobbs was recommended to us by a gentleman on the street. What a find! The coffee was great, the food was delicious, and the staff were all very warm and friendly. In addition, the prices and the portion sizes were satisfactory. If we lived here, I’d make this my local coffee joint! Thanks for a nice dining experience.

Great expectations huge disappointment. My friends ordered pancakes and they tastes like rubber. One of the waitress was just awfully rude towards other customers at the moment we walked in, and we could hear her shouting in the kitchen. The other members of the staff were nice and attentive though, and the place is very nice. Not repeating anyway.

Great Café in the heart of Marchmont. I’m pretty new in the area (and in Edinburgh), but I think it used to be called Freemans a while ago. Anyway, I’m delighted to have discovered such a gem close to my place. Besides cakes & deserts, there is also a selection of light meals at an affoardable price. But it’s the place itself which is worthy: spacy, relaxed, with cute corners and a view on some gardens in the backside. Can’t wait for warmer days to sit on the terrace! :)
