As a lot of you know it’s akin to a bereavement when your hairdresser moves on and doesn’t take you with them(if you haven’t experienced this yet — you have been warned!) and it can be a very delicate and protracted business to find a suitable replacement. I felt this loss a few years ago when mine left the St Andrews Sq branch and I was cast to the winds. However I was kindly saved from the trauma of handing my cows lick to an unknown pair of scissors, by the lovely and experienced India. Now I know some people wouldn’t entertain a £70 cut’n’blow but if you are of a nervous disposition when it comes to your follicles, you couldn’t put them in better hands. Plus if you’re looking for a colour boost or some sensitive redistribution of those pesky greys, Natalie is your girl. Not for those on a budget but you do get free fringe trims, so can extend times between appointments.

Have no idea why Charlie Miller got such a low grade on Unilocal… but from my personal experience, I really enjoy my visit there. The massage, the kerastase product, the curling tone, etc… all made it worth the money. My hairdresser listened to what I need(I showed her picture), but at the same time, she will ask other relevant questions and will give me her suggestions. After all, I’m very satisfied with my new hairstyle :)

Avoid them! They didn’t listen to anything I wanted and my hair turned out a disaster. I have been going to the branch in south st Andrews street for a long time and its always great but it was closed for refurbishment and I decided to take the risk with a stylist in the Frederick street branch. She refused to do my hair as I requested with the excuse that it would not look good for Christmas parties and then I received the quickest shampoo ever and a 15minute haircut which was a horrible style lacking in any effort and certainly not what I requested. However they still managed to take my money even though I was not happy with it and it was no more than a 10 minute trim! There are far better hairdressers in Edinburgh and they just receive their custom because of their brand so avoid them if you want a decent haircut.

Given our recent burst of monsoon weather and intermittent sunshine, the humidity was giving me a full on Crystal Tips ‘do’ and I couldn’t handle it. Us women can have a love-hate relationship with our hair. On the days it doesn’t matter, it looks fab but in the days it does matter, I usually sport the ‘dragged through a hedge backwards’ look. I had of course left it too late to get my regular student appointment at Charlie Miller so I got a last minute appointment without the 40% student discount as there is a big conference presentation coming up and a Fro wasn’t part of the look I was thinking of. I love going to Charlie Miller as the Shu Umera and Kerastase products are lovely and a relaxing head massage just makes it such a great experience. Last minute meant I have just paid for the most expensive haircut I’ve ever had(not coloured) at £58 but its the best I’ve ever had. Natalie is amazing and discussed what I wanted and made suggestions before it came to the chop. I’ve had haircuts before where I’ve came out of the salon thinking that I can’t wait to head home and sort my hair but I just love my hair and I’ll be ditching the student haircuts and booking Natalie every 3 months! CM is well worth a visit and they often have special offers on, if like me, you like you beauty on a budget where possible!

As usual, I left it far too late to book my appointment and so I couldn’t get in at the Charlie Miller in Harvey Nicks where I’ve been going for years. I’d never been to the Frederick Street branch, and I have to admit I was a bit nervous about letting a total stranger loose on my hair. I shouldn’t have worried. From the moment I walked in everyone was really friendly and welcoming, and even though I’d arrived early the stylist saw me almost straight away. All the usual trimmings were there — the complimentary refreshments, the AMAZING head massage when my conditioner was being applied and the top-quality products that they use. But why not 5 stars? The stylist caught my ear with her comb a few too many times for my liking. But that was honestly the only thing I can find to gripe about; everything else was perfect.

I had my hair cut at a Charlie Miller hairdresser due to their reputation; however, I would never repeat the experience. Firstly my appointment was half an hour late in starting — I understand that this can happen at times but I would like to be informed instead of just sitting there like a lemon! Also I needed highlights touched up and after leaving and looking at my hair properly I noticed that they did not match the rest of my hair. Also when having my hair washed it felt like the young man was using my head as a punch bag. In addition I am not happy with the cut, I am sure that not enough was taken off the ends and my hair looks ragged and untidy. As a student I could not afford to have another hair cut so have had to walk around like this for two months. Having said that the staff were friendly — if un knowledgeable.

I had my hair cut here once, never again! I chose Charlie Miller because they had a good reputation amoung friends and I wanted to get a nice hair cut for a wedding I was going to abroad. Although I explained to the stylist what I wanted, she didn’t seem to take it on board at all! She seemed to ignore what would actually suit me and the shape of my face, I looked rediculous after she had finished drying my hair, and tied it back as soon as I left the salon, heading straight home to wash it. It wasn’t cheap either. Maybe it was just a one off bad experience, but I wouldn’t risk it again. The only reason I’ve give 2 stars is because I do have friends who go regularly and have never had a problem.
