Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa

Fantastic 2 night visit! Excellent staff… Including reception, housekeeping and bar. Excellent room, lovely touches including Elemis products. Super clean.

Had a lovely stay here for my 10 year uni reunion recently. Check in was easy, the room was lovely and very large. The décor was modern and we had everything we needed in the clean room. Tea & coffee making facilities tucked away in a cupboard, an ironing board and plenty of wardrobe space. I also liked that there was lots of surface space to lay out all my stuff.
I slept really well in the comfy bed and enjoyed a middle of the night burger from room service on the second night! The chips were awesome and it came really quickly. It wasn’t bad for a hotel either at £10.95 plus a £2.50 surcharge. The portion was massive and the burger was much nicer than I was expecting and well cooked! Pretty impressive for a 3am burger! ;)
We also checked out the spa which was OK but not somewhere I’d book specifically for a spa day. We didn’t have any treatments but spent quite a bit of time chilling in the sauna/​steam room and hot tub. Unfortunately the pool was absolutely freezing — like seriously cold, even sitting around it is a bit chilly, not warm like spas usually are! The steam room was often too full as it is very small and when the hot tub goes off (it’s on a timer) you have to get out so if you want to stay warm it’s either the steam room or sauna! When we could fit in the steam room or sit in the hot tub though, it was very nice and relaxing.
After some lectures (in a well supplied room) we enjoyed a buffet lunch with lots of delicious options — my favourite being mini baked potatoes with some kind of cream cheese inside.
We also had an evening meal as part of our weekend and it was absolutely fantastic, especially when prepared for 40 people at once. Not what you’d expect for a mass produced effort — we had delicious beetroot cured salmon followed by tender, pink lamb with dauphinoise potatoes (so good I forgot to take a picture before digging in!) and then white chocolate crème brûlée with dark chocolate ice cream. The only disappointing thing was the ice-​cream which tasted as though it had been re-​frozen after thawing slightly.
Car parking was free, use of the spa was free as a resident and the bar area was lovely.
I’d definitely stay here again when in Dundee.

My folks stayed here for a month while visiting me during winter break at a local university.
The room was great and kept clean and sparkly by the super friendly and helpful staff that really did go out of their way to make them feel at home.
For one of the nicest, modern hotels in Dundee their room price was fantastic and competitive with the smaller B&B/Hotel/Motels that didn’t have lifts or comfortable beds.
*The room had a view of the Quay with floor to ceiling windows that opened
*The beds were comfortable but tiny
*The flat screen tv was a nice size but the channel selection was limited
*The WiFi was free and strong in the room but you had to log into it in 3 steps every time you turned your computer on
*The room service was great but expensive
*The hotel restaurant was great but expensive
*There isn’t a refrigerator in the room so for a month stay we had to get them a cooler and buy ice every day
*There aren’t any ice machines in the hotel
*Parking is free but you have to get a token from the busy front desk staff (usually only one person) to get your car out. Often there was a line of 2 or 3 people just waiting to be issued a parking token.
Overall, 4 stars for sure. It’s in a great location, close to the city center, and the view of the Quay is quite nice. Dundee is also a pretty central location to take day or two trips to other locations around Scotland. I’d bump it up to 5 stars if there weren’t so many «buts» above.

Wenn man für längere Zeit in Dundee arbeitet, dann gibt es zum Apex Hotel kaum eine Alternative. Moderne Zimmer mit Free Wifi, ein freundliches Team und das angeschlossene Spa, da gibt es nichts zu meckern. Eigentlich. Problematisch ist im Moment nur, dass das Hotel zu Fuß von der Innenstadt kaum zu erreichen ist. Es liegt quasi hinter einer Wand aus Kreisverkehren und Brückenauffahrten. Aber die Monsterbaustelle vor dem Hotel kündigt große Veränderungen an. Und 2013 soll dann alles gut sein Ich bin gespannt.

Good stylish hotel in central Dundee. Nice bar, nice breakfast. Good rooms too.

Never judge a book by it’s cover and don’t let the outside put you off. As you enter you are greeted by staff who want to be there from the guest services to housekeeping. Even the standard rooms are better than most hotels I have been too. As well as paying for your room you have access to the facilities including a swimming pool, spa and gym. Plus there is always offers so look before you book. The hotel has it’s own car park. Lastly you are allowed to take away their trademark rubber duck from the bathroom as a token of your stay. 5 star from a 4 star hotel

What a find this was. I was desperately looking for a hotel in Dundee as I had to go up for a family wedding. I saw this hotel was only £10 more a night than the nearby chain hotel, and thought I’d give it a shot.
For an rate of £80 a night, my husband and I got a gorgeous and nicely sized bedroom, en suite with both a bath and separate shower and (our favourite bit) unlimited access to the pool, sauna, steam room, hot tubs and gym.
The hotel is lovely and clean throughout, the staff are friendly and helpful — one receptionist kindly loaned me an umbrella when a spot of good old Scottish rain threatened to ruin my party dress — and the food in the restaurant is good quality (my simple garden side salad had 3 different kinds of tomato in it — I was astonished!)

I love this hotel. It’s exceptional value for money and as boutiquey as you can get for this size and price.
It’s £90 for a standard double for a night and the room’s full of lovely little touches like free internet access, DVD hire, (nice)shortbread biscuits, complimentary water and (nice) toiletries. My favourite thing of all is the (free) rubber duck who sits atop your towels for the taking in the bathroom.
The brasserie is lovely. I haven’t tried the spa but shall give the pool a shot tomorrow morning. Thanks Apex. I am a huge fan!

I haven’t stayed here but have been a member of the Yu Spa and gym, and eaten at the restaurant a few times.
Both come highly recommended– the food in the restaurant is fantastic and not at all expensive– lunch menu comes in at aroun £10 for a set 3 courses.
Yu Spa is a gem– Japanese themed with hot tubs and a lovely pool. Not at all like your usual hotel gym– its a real pleasure going there– the swimming pool is all lit up at night time, very romantic! Membership doesnt seem to cost anymore than a usual gym either.
Treatments at the spa also good, but i do think these are on the expensive side.

It has to be said first and foremost the inside of this hotel is much, much better than the outside. When it was first build the façade looked very contemporary with the wooden panels. This may have been a good choice in other locations but for a hotel that is very near the water it has not weathered well! The same cannot be said of the interior; the rooms are very sumptuous and are decorated to a very high standard. I feel very relaxed when I stay in one of these rooms. The restaurant is meant to be quite contemporary; some of the food is really not my style however you will find something to suit you.

Don’t let the outside put you off! Horrible attempt at a fashionable exterior which looks cheap and nasty. Inside the Apex is lovely. The Spa is nice and the food is delicious. Conference/​meeting facilities are on the small side but reasonable. I have not stayed overnight.
