There are quite a few Nandos restaurants in Cardiff and I think this one deserves a special mention because to me it’s the first original Nandos and it still delivers the best service and fine tasting food. If you have not heard of Nandos before and you like spicy chicken then I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough. Nandos at the brewery quarter gives off the smell of delicious chicken and it’s always populated with those hungry people with a taste for spice. I remember my first visit and wasn’t sure on what spice to get. You have a choice of which spice you want with ‘lemon and herb’ being the weakest spice, If you find yourself daring and want to try the hottest chicken then I will not be following you into the toilet. My girlfriend and I usually order a starter and a main with two bottomless drinks. This costs around £20 unless we order some more food but this is a great price for lunch or a late night meal. My favourite of the menu has to be the starter of red pepper dip. It is the crunchiest, sweetest most wonderful dip with pita bread I have ever had and I cannot get enough of it. I would recommend that to anybody! Nandos at the brewery quarter is the best one in Cardiff. It’s reasonably priced with excellent waiter service. So prepare to eat some spice!

This is my favourite branch of Nando’s, of all those I’ve been to, mainly because I like the lay out — with its slightly separated areas. For a meal with a bunch of friends, the main part of the restaurant has generous tables to sit larger groups, while in the glass conservatory area you can enjoy a quiet meal for two. Obviously the menu is the same as at all other branches of Nando’s, with an emphasis on simple but delicious barbecued chicken with your choice of spicy sauce(depending on how hot you like it), and side dishes such as corn on the cob, chips, coleslaw, spicy rice and salads. There are some good vegetarian options as well, though, so it’s not only for meat-eaters. The roasted Portobello mushroom and grilled halloumi cheese burger is by far my favourite veggie option. One word of warning: on Wednesdays this place seems to get heaving with groups of students, perhaps after they’ve been playing sport — so you can be fighting for a table if there are a few of you.

If I was reviewing the food then Nandos would always get 5 stars, but this particular branch really annoyed me when I took my girlfriend there last week. It was a sunny day and seemed like a good option for an outdoors lunch in the brewery quarter. It was ruined by the staff from the minute we walked in. Firstly someone shouted at us from the service desk instead of welcoming us in as usual, then when I went to order the server saw me approach and walked away leaving one of the kitchen staff to come serve me and finally said women started shouting to someone else how busy they were(they really werent) with total disregard of me standing there! In fairness the lady who brought out our food was lovely and couldn’t do enough. I will put this visit down to a staff off –day, but just because it’s cheap it doesn’t mean that bad service is acceptable. OK rant over. That feels better!

Nandos Restaurants are obviously standardised across the country. The range of food and drinks is the same, as are the prices. This Nandos, though, is a particularly nice one, I feel. The servers are extremely friendly and the service is brilliant. There is a clear policy in every restaurant to ask if the customer is okay and then take that little green chicken on a stick that’s on your table. However, the servers in this restaurant have a sincerity about them which is wonderful. I have never had any problems with Nandos, and am always impressed by their range of vegetarian food, given that the full name of the business is ‘Nandos Chickenland’. A Nandos anywhere is always worth a visit.
