Not intimidating but service is bad. Took over 1 hour for 2 burgers. The staff ‘forgot’ and did not know why they had so many extra burgers? Burgers were nice, though. Staff was friendly but didn’t seem to care. Beer was good. Place was comfortable. The staff offered onion rings as «apology» — odd. I would have rather had a pint.

The food is edible, nothing great but it takes forever to find it’s way to your table. With that kind of service and food standard, I wouldn’t go back. The chick at the counter was pretty unfriendly too.

The White Harte is a really good pub on Park Row. It’s such a relief of a place after the high prices of the pubs-but-not-really-pubs on Park Street. It is quite a busy one, with many Bristol University students coming here. It feels really nice and old and has mismatched wooden furniture here and there. There are two bars too, which is good for when it gets busy! What I really find fun is the jukebox and the safari themed shooting game. Really livens up the night when you get bored of standing around chatting — or not chatting, if the company ever gets that boring. One thing that’s strange though, is that this pub doesn’t serve ale, which is very odd for a Bristolian pub, and possibly annoys the ale drinkers out there!

There are two White Hart /White Hartes in Bristol which might explain why the owners of this one have whacked an ‘e’ on the end of the Hart. However, I’m sure there are still people who have arranged to meet at one while one of the party has ended up at the other. Doh! My favourite White Hart without a doubt is the one in Wimborne Minster in Dorset but between the Bristol ones this one is the better choice. It is part of the It’s A Scream chain of pubs which specialise in hefty student discounts(I was fortunate enough to invest a fiver in a graduate card back in ’04 which means I get discount for life!) They also host special events such as the recent cider festival where they trialled a new Brothers Tutti Frutti cider. Needless to say, this jaunt is very popular with students but go in there in the daytime and it’s pretty chilled.

Definitely students-only, The White Harte is that most ubiquitious of pub chains — a Scream. Not as flagrantly yellow as some of the others in the country, it’s still got the exact same menu, style and offers as anywhere else in the UK. That said, there’s something comforting about it. Although all the ‘character’ injected into the noticeboards and positively chatty menus is clearly standardised, there’s still something heart-warming about it. There’s always a great atmosphere, people tend to be friendly(or drunk), the music is gloriously adolescent and those prices just cannot be beaten. Cheap and most definitely cheerful, The White Harte is a good place to drink with friends in tow. The food isn’t exactly of the highest quality but it’ll definitely fill a hole(possibly lasting for the next four days…)

Cheap booze, wonky pool tables(much smaller than standard size) and a jukebox… what else could you possibly need?! Ok, maybe some decent drinks and friendly staff, and somewhere to sit. That sounds harsh and really it’s only at peak pub hours you might find this place a bit of a nightmare, but that’s only because their prices are so low! The food and drink is great value(don’t expect gourmet food), which in a city of overpriced pubs and bars during a credit crunch is really fantastic to see. The best reasons to go here are for the quiz, which we won the one and only time we participated. We were pretty surprised, but I think it was the team name of Schindler’s Fist that actually won it for us. The prize was free food and drink, at the White Harte, that was a shame, but the staff were so much fun that night and we had a great time. You should also check out the football here if you can, they have a massive projector screen and the atmosphere is usually pretty great; none of this sipping a Spritzer watching the game in a wine bar in Clifton. Eugh, no thanks, I mean I know football is painfully middle class now, but I actually got told off for swearing loudly at the game last week!!! There wasn’t even any kids in the pub! The little over paid men in the moving picture box won’t hear you unless you swear at them!

I am a fan of any lively pubs that offer good drink prices — and the White Harte provides exactly this. I actually have been to this pub a fair amount of times, my friends live down Park Street and they reckon it’s one of the best place to go for a few casual drinks, and I totally agree. The White Harte is part of the ‘yellow card’ system, which if you haven’t heard of is a discount scheme for certain pubs across the country. You can buy a yellow card at the bar for a pound, and you will forever be able to get cheaper drinks and drinks deals when you come to this place! DEFINITELY worth buying, I mean a pound is nothing! The place itself is very friendly and has a great buzzing atmosphere most nights — on a Friday and Saturday however you might struggle to get a seat so get there early. It is a very studenty place and not somewhere to take the family, but great for catching up with friends! They don’t however have a pub garden, which is a bit of a shame when the weather’s so nice.

This lively and fun pub has developed a good reputation for good, filling, reasonably priced meals. I recommend the burger, which is a little bit more expensive. It is a nice place to go in the winter, as it is warm and has nice big sofa’s. Feel free to wile away the hours playing pool or killing animals on the ‘Big Game’ safari machine. Bring cash as you can only pay on card if it is under a tenner.

The White Harte is a large pub on the corner of Park Row and Park Street. I think it might now be in the process of some sort of redecoration as I peeped through the window whist taking a photo and it looked a little unfinished. I have visited a month back before this change and I had a perfectly pleasant afternoon. I had spent a long day shopping and what’s more I had to climb to the top of Park Street to get home, so by the time i’d reached the summit I was famished. We decided to search for a pub lunch, and a pub lunch is what we got. It’s light and airy inside which is just what I needed for lunch time(I actually like to be able to see what I am eating instead of getting out my phone’s flash due to a pub’s ‘moody lighting’). Prices were a little cheaper than most places, which suprised me as I expected to pay more for the location. I would also like to add that their diet Coke was really good. Normally in pubs you can’t taste a Diet Coke because it’s watered down too much, but here it was good old proper Coke — A*

White Harte is the only Scream pub that Bristol has, which makes it a firm favourite with local students. Just make sure to get the most for your money that you pick up one of their trusty yellow cards to get their legendary discount. This place is cheap, cheerful and unpretentious. Not for people who appreciate the finer things in life — but then again, it wasn’t designed to be! A great place to get the evening off to a cheap start before heading off somewhere more exciting.

This place is ideal for students, let’s be fair. It’s one the scream/yellow card establishments, where you get reduced prices for flashing said card. I went here a lot during my uni years, but hardly ever go back nowadays. However, it’s not that bad at quieter times, as they have a pool table on one side, a massive screen playing Sky Sports on the other and a good range of booths, tables and other areas for sitting either with the missus or in a group. The food isn’t that bad either, especially considering the low prices of the place. However, I would tend to avoid this place at peak student times, as it gets very packed and service grinds to a halt. During the day, though, especially after some Park Street shopping, it’s fine by me.

Cheap, cold beer. Cheap wine. Cheap and good quality food. This place isn’t all that bad! It’s a student pub predominantly, so don’t come here on a Monday night(credit crunch — pints for £1.25) and expect a civilised one. But if you’re up for some inexpensive boozing and a rowdy chat with you mates, this place is great, and you can guarantee you’ll be in there in the morning for the hangover breakfast. Make sure you hit the pub on weekends before 1pm for the tasty brunch menu, my personal favourite is the American style fry up, with maple syrup over everything. mm-mm mm-mm…

This is a Scream pub sitting just off Park Street, which should tell you all you need to know about the place. Basically, if you’re a student who likes things cheap, loud and lairy, this is the place for you. This is essentially a sports pub, with one room filled with tables and chairs dominted by a big screen. The second sizeable room also has TVs plus a number of, not particularly cheap, pool tables. One of the main attractions, of course, is the yellow card which entitles you to cheap drinks, but you do need as NUS card to get one. The rock bottom beer and a burger style menu, though, is available to all.

The White Heart is a loud, brash place. Indy music blaring over the speakers isn’t unusual and expect a football game competing for your attention. Not the most clean of places, the floors and tables are often a bit sticky. The food is OK if you want to have a burger and chips, not sure I would recommend much of what else is on offer. Not bad on a Friday night, especially when they’ve got a few drinks deals. Don’t plan to linger here though. Somewhere for a quick pint before heading on somewhere else. Stay to long and you’ll realise that it’s just a bit dank and dingy in here.

yeah, it’s a kit pub. OK though. Got a handful of pool tables and a couple of big screen TVs and a pull down screen for showing sport, which meant that at five to eight, loads of lads piled in and pool was a bit of a no-no(table was in front of the screen). When I went to the bar, the guy asked me if I had a yellow card and i wondered if this meant I had one strike against me and it would be elevated to a red card if I misbehaved, but lo and behold it actually meant that I could get some kind of discount or deal if I had one. Not being a student, I had no such card and paid full price, which was still quite reasonable, what with it being mainly a student pub. One thing I found quite odd was the fake plastic greenery dotted around the place — there’s a whole turret of fake hedge above the big pull-down screen. Outdoors indoors — confusing!

Part of the Yellow Card chain, this place is frequently often by students. Brilliant place to go to to catch up on those Premiership Games on a Sunday over a cheap pint and a Sunday Big Scary Breakfast. The Service is good and the wait for food is never too long. Get there early to get a comfy sofa seat though!

The White Harte is(in my opinion) the definitive example of an average pub, everything about it seems to be just average, which makes me wonder how it has survived so long with so much competition. The drinks prices are ok, but not cheap. There are a few meal deals on and the food is ok. There isn’t really much of an atmosphere as it never seems to be very busy and the décor involves quite a lot of wood. Not bad, but not exceptional.
