I walked across Pero’s Bridge on a cold, windy day and just wanted a hot chocolate somewhere. I took a look at Shore Bar and immediately thought that I wasn’t posh enough to go in. I was intimidated by the modern, elegant exterior. I was desperate and there were no price listings outside so I went in to brave the glares. However, I was immediately put at ease. There was a large group of drunk, fat men glued to the football. It was definitely not as posh as I had imagined but the place was sophisticated… ignoring the drunk, fat men in the corner. There were some great lunch deals and the drinks selection looked impressive. I was only there for a cup of hot chocolate and a muffin but I will definitely be coming back here for another occasion — perhaps evening drinks or lunch with the family.

This Bar and Grille on Narrow Quay boasts a friendly, trendy atmosphere, great views and a range of drinks to get your weekend going with a swing. The best time to visit is during summer when you can make full use of the outside seated area. There is a range of delicious wines on sale here at very reasonable prices as well as bar snacks and light dishes. Shore attracts quite a large after work crowd, so if you’re looking for a quiet drink it’s best to come at lunch time.

This was until its recent refurbishment known as the Waterfront Tavern, and sits on what I regard as being the right side of the waterfront area(you get a good view of the chav bars without actually being thrown into the thick of it yourself). The inside has been changed greatly, though the main attraction by far is the seating out the front which is one of the last places to get the late afternoon sun. The prices are also a big draw, with Heineken £2.50 a pint all day, every day. There are other permanent offers too — on wine and spirits — which makes it all the more amazing that they don’t draw a chavier crowd. One of the better city centre bars. They also serve cheap food and have barbecues out the front when the weather’s good.

The Waterfront Pub is on the other side of Bristol’s waterfront than all the other pubs and bars on the waterfront. Its quite a large traditional-type pub in contrast to the many trendy bars in the area and you can take your drink outside and drink by the river-side. I find the inside of pub to be pretty drab and dreary and the choice of drinks is not brilliant. No real ales or interesting lagers. Last time I came here the toilets weren’t clean and the place was a bit down-at-heal. There are many better bars in the area so I would not normally choose to drink at the Waterfront pub.
