This is most certainly a gift shop. It is full of a bizarre assortment of products that you would probably never buy for yourself, but for some reason you will think that other people will want. They have everything from clocks to stationary. There are a lot of classic British brands that have been turned into overpriced wall cushion covers and tea sets. Not my type of place but i have been into a few of these shops before– so they are clearly popular and of those shops this is probably the best.

If Photoshop were to personify itself as a traditional British gentleman then this is probably the sort of place he’d run. Everything about this place has that sort of modern yet classical chic design look to it. If you know what I’m on about you’ll probably love it down here. From kitchen wares to cookery books to candle holders this place has everything the modern housewife(or husband) could wish for, all with a sort of bold and colourful twist to it. They also have a wonderfully easy to use website with all their kit on display so maybe the best thing to is check that out, as opposed to imagining a bold, colourful, modern and chic Photoshop man.

A delightful shop with a delightful name, Pod has been in Clifton Village since 2001, retaining its independent stance as one of the best gift shops in the area. Spread over two floors, everything in this shop screams ‘buy me!’ whenever I venture in. The products on offer range from practical; think cook books, bathrobes, clocks etc to the utterly impractical but all the same quite charming; think dinosaur jigsaw puzzles, cake toppers and Wallace & Gromit cookie cutters. The selection of cook books is fantastic and the kitchen supplies downstairs are delightful and could probably turn even the worst cook into a budding Nigella Lawson. The staff are polite and eager to help, particularly if you’re gift shopping, and can wrap gifts for an extra fee. There are cheaper shops like this in Bristol but the prices are competitive for the Clifton area.

This is what my dear dead Grandpa would have fondly called a toe-cover shop– everything you want but nothing you need. Pod strikes the right balance between twee and fun and most items are pretty good value. The first thing I bought here was one of their amazing mounted wall photo frames, which allow you to display an assortment of landscape and vertical pictures in a lovely border. But they also do a mean line in gifts, from coasters and crisp glass vases to old-school style clocks, jewellery and great toys for kiddies. It’s the kind of shop where you come away with a book on baking cupcakes when you have never even considered such an occupation and somehow such a purchase does not seem a frivolity. Could browse for hours– the stock is really well laid out– a lovely way to waste time without feeling like it is wasted.

Gift shop come kitchen shop come jewellery shop come nice hand bag shop! Pod is a lovely shop in Clifton village, they have another branch in Cheltenham, and is perfect for when you want to buy something but don’t really know what you want/need! They have a great selection of things covering a multitude of sins that would be perfect for gifts either to other people or to yourself! The staff are always friendly and the shop is always immaculate. It isn’t the cheapest gift shop you’ll ever find but it is in Clifton and it is very nice.

Set in the heart of Clifton Village, Pod has been around for years, and little has changed in that time. It’s still as quirky as it ever was, perfect for stocking filler ideas and last minute gifts, though you have been warned, items tend to be rather expensive. It’s on two floors with trinkets and bits and bobs upstairs and kitchenware below, that would bound to make Nigella Lawson weak at the knees!

A bright and modern gift shop perfect for the yummy mummy friends in your life. They had a wide selection of Orla Kiely and Cath Kidson items which should help you gauge the style here. Think pink and pretty with a dollop of vanilla ice cream and cherries on top. Over two floors, if you are buying for children check out downstairs for some interesting kids toys and games. However be warned — I did have to leave after 10 minutes because I was beaten into submission by the incredible tweeness of the music. Any more and I would have started swearing and smashing things just to get the status quo of the universe back into kilter.

Looking for that little gift, you know, the personal one for someone who has everything anyway? Try ‘Pod’ in Clifton, Bristol. A good range of tastefully selected stuff, ideal for stocking fillers and maybe even bigger items. Buy in the happy knowledge that you haven’t just got the precious gift from a junk market stall under the railway arches. They have a good internet shop too — try the website if you don’t want to travel all the way to Bristol(though, I would recommend the journey if you have time to browse the exciting little enclave of Clifton Village). Recommended.
