Upper Crust

I always find upper crust a bit too much hard work, so much crunchy baguette and so little time (as I am often rushing for the train) to digest. It’s all a bit dry for me, and there is a distinct lack of mayonnaise, chutneys and general sauciness. Its annoys me because often it is the only thing open at the station, or the most convenient, so again I am lumbered with this huge thing full of bland cheese and some ham. Not impressed.

Getting an early morning train can be very painful. It’s even worse when you have an empty stomach and not a single drop of caffeine has passed your lips. If only there was somewhere on route or even whilst I wait for my train. Of course, the station! That will satisfy my needs. And it did, but at a huge expense to my wallet. Upper Crust does have an eclectic offering of sandwiches and baguettes. I don’t understand where this inflation zone around train stations began. Take a short stroll outside, there’s a whole host of wonderful and understandably priced snacks.

I love this place. I actually sometimes feel like catching trains to random locations jsut so i have an excuse to pop in here. The rolls they stock are brilliantly. Very eclectic range regards fillings, and very, very tasty. Soft drinks, and coffee is also available.

As concourse cuisine goes you can’t go wrong with a baguette from Upper Crust.
This is part of a chain (or franchise ?) that always seem to be located in railway stations.
Always stocks a wide range of freshly made baguettes. They always look huge but are deceptively narrower than the average baguette ! Fillings aren’t particularly imaginative — but instead simple classics (eg: tuna and salad, ham and cheese)
They aren’t the cheapest baguettes in the world (£3 — £4) but are a much better option than a greasy burger ! They sometimes do a meal deal (eg: an offer on a baguette and drink)
In the morning they also sell breakfast pastries and a range of hot and cold drinks is available all day.
