The Futon sells incredibly solid stuff but it’s pretty pricey, even during the sales. The futon itself seemed to have a huge surge in the 90’s and sleeping nearer the floor seemed to be the only way to do it, now with the huge variety of ways of sleeping offered by giant Ikea and many other brands, the Futon doesn’t seem quite so unique as it once did, and probably doesn’t warrant such a hefty price tag. The design here puts modernism and function at the forefront, and the furniture appears extremely well made and lasting stuff, which is more than can be said for much of Ikeas stock which tends to wear a little thin in design and durability after a while. They have nice asides, such as toys, lamps and various smaller pieces of bedroom furniture, but as I said, it will set you back.

The prices here are very reasonable indeed considering the quality of finish on the majority of products. Depending on your point of view though, the fact that the shop only stocks one«style» so to speak is either a good thing or a bad thing. Its good in that you can mix and match products from here and create a gorgeous looking front room and or bedroom that would be the envy of all who visit(and wouldn’t break the bank). But its also quite frustrating, in that if you are trying to buy something to match your home, it can be a little tricky if its not already designed around clean smooth wooden lines. The simple style looks gorgeous though, and picking up a couple of items, or even just one of the smaller items are subtle enough that they should blend into the home nicely… But when I next move place, and if I find myself with enough money I fully intend to splash out on some of Futon’s fine wares.

Futon Co offers a lot more than just futons. The shop sells a variety of bed genres: sofa beds, the usual kind and, well, futons. Other bedroom furniture is also available: end tables, wardrobes and several designs of wall/shelving units. Some of the furniture is on sale, but blankets and other bedding are at more of a discount. Blankets are starting at £12.95 and complete bed-in-a-bag sets are £45. Other home décor is here too — near the back are curtains, decorative cushions(starting at £14.95, reduced from £20), and a line of wooden goods: toys, file folders, various containers for… bedroom junk. Oh, I almost forgot — there was a bean bag chair! I used to love my bean bag. I’ve made a mental note to return when I have more floor.

I spent my teens and early twenties sleeping on futons. I always thought they were quite comfy until I slept in a friend’s king-size bed and slept like a queen. Since then, I’ve never been tempted to sleep on a futon again, let alone buy one. If I was though, this spacious store stocks a great range of single, double and king size futons and futon sofa beds. They also sell a cute range of coffee tables, bookshelves, lamps, bedding and throws. For me though, it’s all about the wooden deer heads on the back wall!

A store that does exactly what it says on the tin(as it were): it sells a range of futon beds, sofa-beds, bedding accessories and small items of bedroom furniture. We were a little nervous about buying a futon sofa-bed as a spare bed, but the staff were very helpful, and there was plenty of information available to explain the difference between the different types of futons. We took their advice and went for the best(most expensive) type of futon, which turned out to be a very good move: it provides a fabulous bed at a reasonable price, though it tends to suit those who prefer firmer beds(I do). Futon sofa-beds don’t work quite as well as sofas, although they do provide more neck support than low-backed sofa beds. Downers: It’s a little out of town, and there’s not much parking around if you’re coming by car. Plenty of buses on the adjacent Western Road, though.
