Currently my favourite pub in Brighton this place has everything going for it. They play brilliant tunes, the bar staff are all very very nice, they have the occasional singer on who instead of making you choke on your pint often makes you swoon and its really cosy and down to earth. It’s just like a pub should be really, without all the traditional stuffiness, a public house where you feel as relaxed as you would in a friends living room, you don’t feel like you are being robbed and it seems as though they do what they want, without a program or itinerary, but it all falls into place very nicely indeed.

I rather like this pub — nice atmosphere and the pizza is quite reasonably priced and authentic but it is most odd how they seem unaware of their own food menu! Whenever I order something I have to go through half the menu in order to find something they have the ingredients for. Oh, and note the strange combination of mirror and advertising space in the loos. Odd.

The Full Moon is a favourite of mine, in this central/South Laines area, at least. It is a refreshing break form the rowdy, tacky chain pubs just around the corner on West St and can happily form part of a mini pub crawl, with the Fiddler’s Elbow next door and the Hop Poles not far away. The Full Moon is a cosy, comfortable pub, with dark wood furniture and a lovely warm atmosphere. Like the Fiddler’s Elbow it has a traditional feel about it and both pubs feel sort of as if you’ve entered a wooden cave or bunker(in a good way!). The clientele is mixed, but in my experience not as young and studenty as some of the North Laines pubs. You can expect a great selection of wine, beer and cider at pretty standard prices. Whats especially nice about this pub is that although its not massive, it rarely feels cramped and I’ve never waited very long to be served– something of a rarity in central pubs!

This is a great little pub in Brighton’s Lanes, its small but cosy with wooden furnishings, chandeliers and golden yellow walls. They also specialise in organic beers like Reidenburger and Golden Promise if you’re into that sort of thing. It attract all sorts of Brighton folk from young indie hipsters to 2.4 family types. Nice pub grub and family atmosphere at lunchtime, staff can be unnecessarily arrogant considering the friendly attitude from the customers but still worth a visit.

This pub has a really nice ambience, with a very stylish wooden interior. The staff are very friendly, and loquacious, and I had a pretty good chat with the barman here about music and pub food. Pints cost about £2.50 here, and there’s an ok selection. Its 3 for 2 on shots of Jagermeister, Tuaca, Sambuca and Tequilla, premium doubles — e.g. Jack Daniels, Vodka etc — go for £3.80, and on Thursday and Friday between 5−7pm, you can get a pizza and a pint for £6.50. For those who like to be entertained when out, there’s a fruit machine, good, funky music, and frequently live bands.

Whilst I like this pub a great deal, and previously liked to relax here, it only scores 2 stars from me entirely due to the idiot that is the French chef responsible for the food. I booked the backroom for a surprise party for my wife here last year, and whilst everyone had a lovely time, I was ripped off good and proper with the food. I paid him £50, and I got a couple of baskets of chips, some breads and dips, and erm, that was about it. Pub, atmosphere, aesthetics, bar staff, all great, but ripped off beyond belief by the chef.

A pub with a difference. Small but with a great family atmosphere. Good food from lunchtime. Howling at the moon open mic nights
