Railway bell feels like a chain pub which is Ok but has very little character or ambience. The food last time I ate there was shocking — they didnt mention my chicken burger would be slightly frozen. Theres a good smoking area out the back but on the whole this pub is very average and for one reason or another, the EDL seem the gather there on protest walks –this is a massive downer to an already sub standard pub. Personally i’d give it a miss

Similar to the review by Grace K., I came into the Railway Bell while waiting for the whistle of a train to tell me it was time to go home after a day of refreshing my health on the southern English coast. I was pleased to find a full bar, friendly tenders, and football on the telly. I lounged on a couch and chatted sports and generally felt quite comfortable, as though it was a place I could frequent if I had the opportunity. I would certainly be interested in checking out their food menu, if there was one I happened to miss. It’s also a lovely people-watching opportunity because of the foot traffic as well as people out on the sidewalk. All in all, the Railway Bell was a solid accidental spot for a drink while in Brighton. I’d definitely go back, and not be rushed by the call of the train when I do.

Stumbled in while waiting for the last train back into London and after a long day of touring the cute town of Brighton. Great service. The guys were really nice behind the bar. Good prices for food, but I’m used to London prices, so I guess I would say that for anywhere outside London. Cozy atmosphere. It looked more like a place people came before they took the train so it was a mix of all kinds coming and in and out of the city. Great screens to watch the Olympics, so that was another nice way to kill time. All in all, if I find myself in Brighton again I would come by and have a ladies pint.

Strangely this pub does one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Not sure if that was because I was so damn hungry or if it was actually well made. Either way it’s a great place to come for lunch during work with a small group. There’s also a nice little roof terrace hidden away at the back.

I went to this pub this evening as a friend wanted to try it out for a quick birthday drink. Full of Football fans, fair enough. Not my type of atmosphere. The customer service was awful. A gent behind the bar served me and was very rude and abrupt. Complained about having to take card payments. I mean, it’s all Money in there tills at the end of it. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone and I won’t be going there again. Not te type of pub I want to give my money to.

The Railway Bell has recently been taken on by new owners and is currently closed for a major refurbishment. They are looking at opening again early July with a launch party a few weeks later with focus on friendly service for everyone and high standards. More details to follow, take the time to visit and see the new and improved Railway Bell.

The Railway Bell is the the hangout of choice for racists and fascists of the EDL and ENA. Berst avoided by anyone who deems themselves to be a decent member of the human race.

A pub which welcomes racists. Best avoided by decent tolerant Brightonians.

The Railway Bell is a very pubby pub which is actually quite nice to find these days. A good place to come to watch the footie and have a quiet pint. It’s in a good location right next to the station although it may suffer due to it having a fair bit of competition. It’s quite a blokey pub although the atmosphere was friendly and I certainly felt comfortable being the only woman in the place other than the bar maid!

The Railway Bell is not only situated in the middle of town, it’s also distinctly middle of the road. Neither outstanding nor dreadful it caters for the mainstream crowd whose taste in drink and entertainment is distinctly typical. Marketing yourself at this area can be risky, as lager-drinking footy fans can often be a touch unsavory. To give the Railway Bell credit though, it maintains a certain standard where disturbances are rare. Taking influence from chain-pub décor it offers nothing in the way of originality but, as with many pubs like this, its mains selling point is that by adhering to common standards even the most unsophisticated of drinkers will know what to expect.

Certainly not my favourite pub in the area but by no means a bad one, The Railway Bell caters for somewhat of a non-discerning crowd, happy to sit with a pint of regular lager and watch the footy. The selection of beer is average and the prices are very reasonable. Basically, it’s just one of those places that’s smack in the middle of the road.

The Railway Bell ain’t a bad little pub, and nearly manages to scrape itself an extra star for having a pool table, something that seems to be a dieing tradition of pubs, especially in Brighton. You also get the more modern amenities, such as TVs for football and a well stocked pub quiz machine. Prices are fair, and there’s a decent enough stock of beer to choose from, and its proximity to the station makes it ideal for journeymen. But there are better places to go to dotted around the area, so unless you’re looking for a game of pool, or for an addition to your pub crawl, you’ll do better looking elsewhere.

The best way to describe this place is as a pub. Yes, I know that is obvious, but there isn’t a great deal more to say about it. It is one regular shaped room, with a bar in the corner, a choice of tables, a big screen for football. The customers are mainly middle aged men — a traditional pub crowd I suppose. With a wealth of more unusual places around it, the Railway Bell may not be the first choice of many, but it does what it does well.

Every town needs a pub with reference to railways in the name just outside the Station — and Brighton’s answer to this is ‘The Railway Bell’. Traditional and friendly pub that is a great place to meet someone if you are coming into Brighton by train. Even better if you have been drinking in London and want one more for the road when you get off the train. I’m sure most commuters in and out of Brighton will admit to ending up here more than once ! Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly. I’ve only ever drunk in here and so can’t remember if they also serve food(but I know they do stock crisps !) What more do you want?
