I decided to give New Lotus a try for some takeaway and surprisingly the food that I ordered was pretty decent. My previous history of Chinese takeaways have been bad and I’m finally glad to have found a place that serves good food. I ordered Wonton Soup, Thai Spicy Chow Mein and Mushroom Fried Rice via Just Eat and asked for them to deliver at a specific time. Unfortunately they didn’t get the memo and they had my food ready within 30 minutes. Thankfully the driver came back and didn’t realize the specified delivery time and apologised. Overall I’m pleased with New Lotus and feel that their prices are also reasonable. My total bill was £10.70. FYI — they charge £0.50 card fee. I would’ve given it 4 stars if my rice had more flavour but it was still tasty. Will definitely order my next Chinese takeaway from New Lotus!

This was my first time ordering from New Lotus, and as the other reviews say, the food tastes great. My 3-stars are reflecting the portions of the set meal for 2. Anyone who has ever ordered a set meal for 2 knows it will easily feed more than that. However, this was small portions of everything and we ate it all and weren’t overly full up. We had the C1 for 2: Combination starter — 1 small quarter of prawn toast each, 1 small skewer of satay chicken each, 1 prawn in batter each and a tiny wonton each and a bit of crispy seaweed. It looked lost in the large styrofoam box it came in. The sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong(we had substituted for this) came in a shallow tub and that was only half full! We found ourselves counting out the little pieces of chicken to try and be fair. The crispy shredded chilli beef had even less in the box than the chicken and even more of which was sauce. Very disappointing. The veg box was not surprisingly full but it wasn’t particularly nice veg! There were 2 pieces of mange tout. Yes, 2. 1 small stalk of broccoli. The rest was primarily heart of Palm, onion and a bit of water chestnut. Tasty but boring. Quarter crispy duck — this was probably the most disappointing in terms of flavour, and the size was again small. The contents were filled out with the bones and it was partially over crispy to the point of tough, and there were bits of fat, not that great, but still got eaten. Special fried rice — full tub, tasty, but fairly average. Not much in the way of peas or meat in it. Not sure what was meant to be special about it. So…will i try it again? I might. But I won’t ever order a set meal again! I was severely disappointed for £25. Thank goodness it at least all tasted good! The taste was the only thing that saved this from getting 1-star.

Best takeout in Brighton. The curry is amazing, and my personal favourite is fried rice with satey chicken(14a on the menu I believe). Great service and friendly staff.

friendly welcome and the service is always good. the man working at the till has a good manner and is helpful when you’re a bit stuck with choosing a meal. the price is good and service is quick, which is a big plus. the only complaint is that the beef resembles doner meat, but all in all, a good place to get your pigging out material on the cheap.

Chow Mein has a tendency to loose its consistency if you order it for take away, but the house special noodles at New Lotus stay crunchy even after your second helping. Tucked away in a little nook of Seven Dials, New Lotus is Chinese Take Away with loads of flavor. With a full stacked menu that includes Duck, Veggie, Noodle and Rice dishes, New Lotus is a delightful surprise when you don’t feel like cooking. Last night I ordered the Veggie Fried Rice, Kung Pow Chicken and Special House Noodle, which was plenty for Two and could have fed Four easily. The staff offered helpful and tasty selections, and made it easy for a first timer to decide. Next is the Won-ton Soup and Lemon Chicken… YUM!

One of the best chinese takeaways in the area. Food is freshly cooked and always steaming hot(a real bug bear of mine if it isn’t !). I’ve only ever collected my takeaway from them in person — but think they do a home delivery service. Prices are really reasonable(less than a tenner per head for a main, meal, rice and an appetiser). The shanghai noodles are a favourite of mine and definitely recommended. Situated opposite the co-op so you can go and buy a bottle of wine to accompany your meal whilst you are waiting !

This place looks nothing from the outside. But order food from here and you’ll be surprised. The squid in blackbean is very good and all of the veg actually still has crunch left in it(pretty rare for a chinese takeaway). It’s best serving the local area I think and you can always pop over the road for a pint whilst your takeaway is cooked.
