A perfect restaurant to go for a special occasion and if you love Japanese food. I would also recommend going during a warm day, when the restaurant opens outdoors too.

The restaurant is really nice inside and very cool. The food is good! Amazing mackerel or crab sushi. The overall pice is too high… Very expensive! I ordered a mixed selection by the chef, 40£, and was not a big portion for 2 people. With 20£ each you would expect to feel«full». But the price worth it if you don’t go there too often.

I have mix experience in this sushi restaurant, the servers are very very good ! However, the sushi & sashimi are not fresh, especially the sushi rice. The rice is very hard and taste like uncooked. The tuna, salmon also not fresh, 40 pounds for a sushi boat only total 20 pieces of sushi with sashimi. The price & food are not equal! Hire a Japanese chief pls!

I have been here a few times and have always really enjoyed it. Sushi can be tricky when it comes to gluten free eating. Soya sauce isn’t gluten free, for example. Nor is anything with imitation crab, or anything deep fried. Moshimo do have gluten free soya sauce available if you ask, which is great. They do also have gluten free items on the fun conveyer belt… but I’d say you’ll have a better time ordering something off the menu instead of staring it down trying to figure out if the thing passing you does indeed have a bread-like coating on the little thing inside the roll. Not as much fun, but much easier and safer! I love their outdoor area in the summer with the neat little picnic benches.

My partner and I visited Moshimo in June, and had a very mixed experience. First things first — the service was EXCELLENT throughout, and they did all they could to make us welcome and happy. The venue itself is nicely, and tastefully, decorated. So, the food. My partner, not vegetarian, ordered: Chicken gyoza, prawn tempura, and chicken teriyaki with rice, and pronounced them all excellent. I am vegetarian, and ordered differently. I had: tempura vegetables — which we appallingly overcooked; vegetable gyoza — which were completely oil-sodden and utterly flavourless; and yak udon noodles with vegetarian duck — which were excellent! Over all, I think it’s probably worth another try, but I can’t rave about it yet.

As we turned the corner we were greeted by the striking Opticon in all it’s glory with its open walls welcoming us in and were quickly shown to a good size table next to the sushi conveyor, which snakes its way round the open plan space. As you’d expect from any decent Japanese restaurant, Moshimo believe in Japanese culinary traditions and principles using only the freshest seasonal ingredients to create their exciting range of dishes and many of their vegetables come from Ikuko and Robin, who run a tiny farm outside of Lewes growing Japanese vegetables and herbs such as daikon and mizuna. The Seabass Ceviche was subtle but the quality of the fish shone through, the Butaniku Pork Ribs were fantastic in their tenderness, flavour and quality of sauce and the Cod Cheek Tempura were crispy, light and meaty all at the same time. This was our second visit to Moshimo(although the last time we came was about 6 years ago and back then it was called Moshi Moshi) and I feel like it could become a very regular dinner spot. I was surprised how reasonable the menu was priced and if you can take advantage of the 50% members offer then you’ll struggle to find anywhere else you can have a meal of this quality at such good value.

Unfortunately I disliked this experience a lot. My main of Yaki Udon with faux duck was lovely, but the maki rolls etc kinda sucked, I have to say. I got the vegan cheese and sunblush tomato, which was so bland, and I don’t know what the cheese was exactly, but it resembled uncooked tofu(and tasted like it too). The veg tempura was beyond average. The best vegetable tempura i’ve ever had was at the Gallery Café in Bethnal Green. I also hated the setup of the whole restaurant– the seating makes you feel like you’re sat on a friggin moped. But that’s probably just me.

I went for lunch in Moshimo on my day visit to Brighton. It’s a fun place with the traditional conveyer belt squirming across the whole restaurant transporting small plates of sushi to hungry customers. It works both as an awesome decorative element as well as a practical food dispenser. You can compile your whole meal from the belt if you like or you can order food from the menu — or combine the both as I did. The belt is pretty great because you can immediately start eating and don’t have to wait for anyone to serve you — this is particularly convenient if the wait staff is no where to be found or if you are really hungry like I was ;) I ended up ordering some nice scallop and tuna sashimi with a soft shell crab tempura. I also had some salmon and tuna nigiris and kimchi salad from the conveyer belt. Everything was good but nothing too special to be honest. I’d say the scallops were the highlight of the meal for me. The service was not very good as we had to wait to be served quite a while(thank god for the conveyer belt) and when we did get service it wasn’t very polite or nice. What also brought the dining experience down was that we ordered some mineral water with lime and ended up with not only the totally wrong drinks, but they were really bad tasting too. I was actually told that the service is always bad there, but I can only base my opinion on my own experience and that left a lot to wish for.

I really, really like Moshimo. I’ve never had anything but super fresh sashimi, nigiri and handrolls here, in addition to piping hot meals ordered off the menu. This review is more of a cumulative one, rather than detailing a specific experience. This isn’t haute cuisine, and the full experience is a completely different animal from, say, a Michelin-starred restaurant in London. However, for me, it really is as good as it gets for Brighton and Hove in the way of reliably good sushi plus overall affordability if you’re a member, hence the 5 stars. I’ve been coming here for the past three years, and make wild use of the membership card. It’s £10 to buy, and is only good for a year, but you get 50% of most food on the menu on Mondays and Tuesdays, and the way my partner and I eat, the card pays for itself twice over in a single meal. It gets really packed on these days though, so if you go at 6:30 on a Monday, be prepared to queue. The salmon sashimi is like buttah! Butter in delicious salmon form. I get really twitchy about fish that isn’t fresh or has the slightest fishy flavour, and that’s something I’ve never encountered here. We also tend to be really happy with the crab and avocado temaki, aubergine dengaku, chicken kara age, and the many rolls that come out on the conveyor belt. The menu changes seasonally, and there are quite a few vegetarian and vegan options, which I appreciate. There is a focus on sourcing the food locally and sustainably, so you can feel reasonably virtuous too. I wouldn’t write home about the cocktail selection, but they have some refreshing matcha iced tea, as well as Kirin on draft. If we do opt for dessert, we go for the mochi, because they’re small, satisfyingly sweet, but not rich. Most of the time, we’re so stuffed with sushi, that it’s difficult to even contemplate dessert! The service is good– not overly attentive, but they don’t leave you high and dry either. Occasionally you might need to flag someone down for the bill or to order, but most of the time, waitstaff come by to check on you and are friendly. Going to Moshimo just feels really homey– it’s not pretentious, but we know that when we go there, we’ll leave very happy(and maybe go back the next day for a second round).

Wandering back from an evening event to my hotel, I was looking for some late-night dinner snacks, and wasn’t in the mood for Subway. I’d been told of a great sushi place nearby, and so when I came across the plaza area that had this big glass-windowed, open-walled, seductively-lit restaurant, complete with those wee converyor belt bars that do so well in sushi restaurants, I felt I’d struck nigiri-gold. The restaurant itself had an air of Californian laid back sushi eating, with the buzz of a New York restaurant that’s open late in the city that never sleeps. A sexy, delicious sushi restaurant that’s open and still serving, with all the window-walls off and the lights on, at 10pm? Slightly foreign to me! Maybe it’s because it gets darker later in Scottish winters that everything starts to shut down by 10pm. They have a dedicated takeaway menu, which made ordering to go easy. I went for one of their boxes that came with all manner of delicious foods. Their boxes seem unique to them, not just your usual, generic boxes you can get from any sushi place. And it was made fresh to order. If I were back in Brighton, I’d definitely seek this place out to eat-in at, it was so beautiful, like a little oasis of rice and raw fish. Take away was a winner for me, so all round — yes!

Not good at all. Sushi was NOT fresh. I am pretty sure all the lunch/dinner menus are pre-made in the fridge and then brought out, all they need to do is take the cling film off of the plate. hands down the worst sushi I ever had. Service was good! nice people working there and cool venue but terrible sushi

Been here twice now and was as impressed the second time round as the first time. Lovely typical Japanese sushi restaurant, a little bit more relaxed than some of the more popular sushi bars you find around! Great Menu has a wide range of dishes which from what i sampled are delicious! It also offers the conveyor belt that constantly runs different dishes round the restaurant which you just pick off and enjoy! All part of the experience at a restaurant like this. Only real complaint here is no teppanyaki table, i know its a sushi restaurant but i really wish i could find a teppanyaki restaurant in Brighton and this one would be very well suited for one! Well worth visiting here if you haven’t already.

Usual Order: Matcha Iced Tea, Aubergine Dengaku or Seaweed Salad, Faroes(Assorted Vegetarian Sushi) A loyalty card will cost you 10£ but will enable you to get 50% off for you and a pal(less percentage per person if you bring more than 2 people) on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the year(and EVERYDAY in January). It pays for itself with ONE(two-person) meal so it makes no sense not to have one, really. The restaurant is decorated in a traditional Japanese style(tatami room). And in the summer has a lovely outdoor patio area. It also has a conveyor belt of assorted sushi but I rarely order from this as the other food on the extensive menu is so delicious!

Sushi is one of my favourite foods to eat out and Moshi Moshi never fails me. The food is great and the atmosphere is friendly. The service is fine but as most the food comes off the conveyor there’s not a whole lot of interaction with them. Would recommend Moshi Moshi to anyone looking for a good sushi restaurant but I would advise them to go on Monday to take advantage of the 50% off offer or at least have a voucher to reduce the price.

Fanciest sushi place I have seen in Brighton so far. I mean compared to pompoko or okinami, this place is like a palace. Got seated pretty quickly and the server was nice. I have a problem with the seats though. They are too close to the other table, so I kept bumping into the person behind me… which was awkward. I got the chicken katsu which was tender but didn’t have enough curry. My friends got the taster(?) which gave them 12 small dishes and a drink. The first six were mostly veggies and the next six were meat & sushi. Seemed pretty good, but didn’t try them, so I can’t tell. Also got one of the sushi plates off the belt, but wasn’t so good(too much rice & not so fresh). And a Snow Monkey which was all right, but overpriced. All in all, this is a pretty expensive place to eat at. I spent about 20 pounds for my meal. I wanted to try a lot of the dishes on the conveyor belt, but they were just too pricey for my own good. Lost a star because it’s expensive and another because it’s not very top notch for the price. I mean, 20 pounds? that’s 4 pompoko meals! And I’d still have money left over: D

The sushi here is fine, given Brighton is a long way from Japan. But what’s with the service, do they care if people return? I had booked a table for a celebratory meal. My(well presented) friends who arrived early waited to be greeted. It was fairly busy, and one friend decided to pop to the loo — he was then intercepted by a waiter and told ‘toilets were for customers only’. Not that busy then, evidently. When I arrived I wondered why my friends were loitering uncomfortably by the entrance — but before I had the chance to find out what had happened, or even mention I had booked we were rushed to a table. Throughout the meal the service was ok but they were clearly busy and customer service was not a priority. In true British style we didn’t bother leaving a tip; you still have to earn our gratuity here! As I said the food was fine, but I’ll be checking out some other Sushi places before I return.

The Brighton Moshi Moshi looks more like a modern art gallery than a restaurant from the outside, and the food inside also paints a pretty picture. The conveyor belt was constantly loaded with a good variety of dishes, stacked one on top of the other — Brilliant, you think, until one topples over the side spilling its oily contents all over my friends coat! In fairness to the staff, the situation was handled very professionally with the staff rushing over with clothes to sort out the mess and quickly summoning the manager who graciously agreed to foot the dry cleaning bill. All in all, the food was very good, both from the conveyor and from the al la carte menu. The only thing I would change with regards to the food: 1. the edamame beans should have been a bit fresher and 2. a free refill of miso soup(a la Yo Sushi). Unfortunately, Moshi Moshi have lost a star for their constant pestering over the loyalty card. We had two cards between four of us which entitled us to a 40% discount. Another friend arrived who just wanted a beer and nothing to eat, and three times the wait staff came over to insist that we wouldn’t get any discount if he were to eat anything — we get it! He only wanted a beer but was unfortunately made to feel really uncomfortable in being there. Took the shine off the night a bit, but otherwise a good place to satisfy those sushi cravings.

It’s been going since 1994 and looking at their site has the smug air of a company almost more concerned with it’s eco-credentials than the food it serves. That combined with the fact it was owned by a certain Heather Mills and was known as being the perfect place to take your little organic food eating, no sweets allowed, organic cotton only, home schooled, able to have an adult conversation in a restaurant despite only being five rather than running round like normal horrors little Edmunds and Alices and I was really ready to bury it. So why were we there? Because the sushi, apparently, was to die for… We gave them a tough enough challenge, arriving mid afternoon after a busy Saturday lunch service with the vestiges of the lunch service still being cleared, and the last Alices and Edmunds were flinging their final maki roll at doting mum and dad. It’s a conveyor restaurant, with a central preparation area and a hot kitchen though a hatch. The restaurant itself is a copper green cube sitting squat in Bartholemew Square. Despite having just finished lunch there were still a fair and reasonable selection of dishes rolling round. The fish on the nigiri was fresh and sweet, with a nice bite to the rice. A couple of thick shards of mackerel really stood out, still gleaming on the outside, straight from the sea. As well as your standard conveyor belt fare they also have a large hot food menu with some exciting seasonal treats on there. As well as the expected udon noodle dishes, several gzoya, the ubiquitous terriyaki and a pork tonkatsu there’s also a marinated Korean pork bulgogi served with a spicy Korean sauce and a terrific sounding Cornish catch of the day(more of that lovely mackerel) dry fried in salt and sansho pepper. For me, there was only one call for an extra dish alongside the nigiri and sashimi and that was a whole softshell crab, sliced in two and cooked in a tempura batter. It was a great choice. A light greaseless batter coated the two halves of crab and the piquant thin chilli sauce offset the rich crab, cooked lightly enough to retain its taste of the sea. A perfectly reasonable, though unexceptional chocolate mousse finished us and we waddled out onto to the blustery seafront, leaving the staff the relax for a few hours before another onslaught of middle class Brighton media refugees and their offspring.

The building certainly catches the eye with the Brighton Moshi Moshi, situated right in the centre of the town hall square. It really is a contrast between classical Greek inspired architecture and the Japanese influenced restaurant. The décor inside continues this theme and you may sit along the conveyor belt counter(I actually hate the concept of conveyor belt sushi) or in booths or modern styled tables. It certainly is a busy place and you get a bustling lively atmosphere with your dining experience. I have always found the staff to be very professional and friendly and cannot fault the service. Concerning the actual food, I wouldn’t really rave about it. Nothing is particularly bad and ordering a sushi board is a nice way to eat. You get a good selection of sushi on a tasteful board with all the ginger, soy and wasabi you can handle. Call me a traditionalist, but I would have liked to see Japanese chefs in the kitchen. I only noted 20 something westerners clearly following base instructions sent down from the chain’s head office. If you go for a full on meal with starter and sake to finish you will rack up a fairly pricey bill, but you can get away with eating at about £15 a head if you aren’t famished. The place does somethings well, but I can never fully escape the feeling of stepping into a Japanese take on a restaurant franchise and would probably look elsewhere to the independent establishments in the city for my sushi needs.

A rainy day by the sea. How very British. Empty stomachs and not a clue where to find what we were after with which to satisfy the rumbles we circled the lanes trying to find something other than a sandwich shop or an Italian restuarant. We were after something oriental. We asked a chef standing outside one of the numerous Italian joints(why so many in such s small area?) and he pointed across the road to this bizarre building saying ‘well, there is that place, it’s call Mish Mosh or something, I think it’s chinese’ Moshi Moshi was in fact serving sushi. Such a shame that after all that effort it turned out to be sadly disappointing. My girlfriend ordered(I have no knowledge of what’s what on a sushi menu-) and I can’t really remember what we had. I do remember the scottish salmon sushimi– we both agree that this was the best thing we’d ordered– and the thing that the restaurant had no hand in making. The staff were grumpy and deeply lacking in energy and enthusiasm which quickly rubbed off onto us. I did like their aprons though.
