One star only because you can’t give zeros. Ahhh Clever with Leather. Walked down the steps to the store, passed all the strewn leather junk(their customer’s discarded jobs?) poked my head in. Owner and 2 young lads just stared. Who do I talk to about getting a quotation I asked smiling. well come in first said the owner rudely. You can talk to me, him or him but let’s see what you want I explained I had a hand tooled leather guitar strap I wanted turning into a belt. The young lads both laughed at this and the owner started looking at the belt saying what he’d do to it. I was not convinced he knew what he was doing, and it looked like what he was suggesting was a lazy way of working. He was generally rude, but assumed he’d got the job: Yes. let’s do it this way at which point I gently took the belt back and said politely I was going to look around some other leather places for a quote. He laughed at this: What other leather places where are they? he grinned. I said Brighton and Hove(I’ve found a place in Hove). He said he’d love to know where they were as my husband and I walked out of his shop. Well, it’s not a shop really, it’s a junkyard where leather goes to die. There was no way I was leaving my belt with him. The place was dire, dingy, the owner seemed clueless and definitely didn’t want to listen to me at all. How, how, how is this place still going? Do not go here!

Bad customer service. Door locked and nver any answer from bell. Tried calling and left messages but never have my calls returned. Maybe they have closed down

Ah, Clever with Leather. I’m sure they can make perfect replicas 14th Century tunics with a toothpick and pheasant skin. But I for one will never know. Instead, attempting to have my leather jacket relined and altered, I was asked why would I want to do that and generally mocked about my taste in clothing. Somewhat ironic, given the proprietors garb at the time. I’ve never been so poorly treated in my life, and I’ve lived in Paris. They may be good at their job, they may be the best. But I would ask, humbly, that such behavior be appropriately punished, and that all who read the above avoid them on principle alone. I believe their business relies on the fact that they are the only leather repair shop in Brighton. Go to Lewes(Cobblers), go to London, go to John O’Groats. Do. Not. Go. Here.
