Came here for lunch, was a hot sunny day was great to be given an outside table. Staff really friendly and service was extremely quick. For a quick lunch the food was ok, i had a chicken blt burger which seemed to be chucked into a fryer for quick cooking. It was bad or horrible but for the price they could probably invest in better graded food. Worth a visit

I went there to order 4 pieces of fish and 2 large fries for a group of people to take away. I entered before 8pm and the guy was working there was pissed for some reason! They charge more than any shop around them on the same street, they charge for sauces and when I asked if they offer tartare sauce he pretended that he never heard of it — which is weird for a fish and chips shop. So I left because of the awfully costumer experience I had their and the prices! Where I can get the same food with extra sauces and a smile for free! I will go with the later anytime! So ha if you’re looking for the whole experience of fish and chips go to any shop but this one! Cheap prices, sauces and more importantly a smile :-)

Opens 24 hours — Our go to after a night of drinking for a decent plate of food. The menu is very varied, service is very speedy and the portions are great.

A great place to go for a post-party snack. On several occasions I have been there for a full English breakfast at 2 or 3am. Actually, full English with wine :) It can get rather busy in there on Friday and Saturday nights. There is usually a really good atmosphere inside and occasionally a queue of people wanting to get in.

Now before you rightly call me out and say there’s no way that you, Kendall M., a distinguished foodie who has traveled around the world in search of great meals, could vouch for this restaurant as serving a five star meal — you’re right. On any day, at any time — this is a 24 hour restaurant after all — the likelihood of having a five star meal here is about 1%. This is true of most all-hours restaurants, and we all should be wise enough to know this by now. That is, to know that the onus is on you to make sure to visit this kind of restaurant only at that magical 1% of the time, when a greasy 24 hour eatery is like an answered prayer shining out of the heavens. For me, that instance was after my partner and I had set off for a short evening stroll at around 9 pm to enjoy the full moon and encountered an elderly man who had thrown out his back by falling down some stairs at the seafront. A call to the non-emergency NHS number(45 mins), a taxi to the A&E, and several hours later, it was 1 am and we were walking home from the hospital starving. When I moved to Brighton 8 months ago, I immediately took note of all the 24 hour restaurants and shelved them away for a rainy day — it was time. We both ordered the full English breakfast, and it was very full indeed. I had my fried egg swapped with scrambled eggs at no extra cost(I don’t like undercooked yolk and I was too tired to explain I wanted a fried egg with the yolk fully cooked) and I’m pretty sure the scrambled eggs were not even made from eggs but instead from one of those powdered mixes, but you know what? I have never enjoyed a fried breakfast so much as I did that day. I enjoyed it more than every fried breakfast I’ve ever had, including Bill’s. How was it that crappy beans suddenly tasted so good?! Why did I suddenly like chips that much?! Why was the level of grease in the dish amazing instead of disgusting?! My partner opined, «it’s as if after doing a good deed, the powers that be were trying to figure out a way to reward you… they thought what would make Kendall happiest right now? well, if we could just find a way to make that meal delicious somehow, against all reason…» It was a truly magical experience — one that I fully appreciate can never be duplicated. And that is the story of the one and only time I will ever visit Buddies.

Like Chris H. said, Buddies is open all night, which makes this place your #1 destination after the bars/clubs close. Satisfies your craving for some fish & chips or other likely drunchies you may have, but it’s not the best fish & chips you’ll ever have in your life. The staff is used to all kinds of drunk shenanigans & obnoxiousness, but they’ve never been rude to any of my friends or me. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve stumbled into Buddies just for a filet of Haddock with my friend while trying to bargain with them, & then harassing them about whether or not they remembered us. «How can I forget such beautiful faces? Where are you girls from?» Big tip for you! Visit Buddies late at night, sober or drunk, doesn’t matter. Friendly, filling, hits the spot, less greasy than some of the other places, & better than some of the other places. Easy on the wallet & the portion size of the fish is enormous!

Buddie’s Restaurant extension Buddie’s Fish N’ chips gets a 4 just for the fried mars bar. I’ve heard about this infamous fried mars bar for months now from UK travels to Inverness, Edinburgh, Thurso, Speyside, Perth, Manchester, the list can go on forever. After the much anticipated meeting it did not disappoint. Every warm gooey bite brought satisfaction which made me ignore the fluttering of my heart from the greasy spoon texture and taste. A delightful but sinful treat which I do not encourage the faint of heart to try or it can lead to the demise of your health plan.

The good thing is this place was open. The bad thing is that is was open. Pulled an all-nighter and the thing you want most is what’s so bad for you. We stumbled in here and both got the fish and chips. The chips were definitely better than the fish. The fish looked like it had herbs mixed into the batter; expected something different but it was bland, leaving me with that oft regret after you scarf down greasy drunk food.

Cheap, cheerful, fabulous chips, pretty good fish. Lunch for a fiver, in Brighton, and it’s neither greasy nor terrible. Though it is a bit of a greasy spoon. I’m honestly not quite sure why one would be out late in Brighton, though I’d be down with stopping here if I did.

Ever-popular with the student masses and weekend club-goers, Buddies is a 24-hour seafront diner. Conveniently located just a stone’s throw from the clubs in the King’s Road Arches, this is the only place I know where you can get a full fry up at 3am. In my student days, we frequently stumbled out of The Honeyclub or Coalition(née The Beach) at around 4am and decided rather than sleeping and THEN having breakfast, it was far more time-effective to do it the other way around. There are, however, a few problems with Buddies. The first is that it’s absolutely packed with rowdy drunk people. Not all the time, but after about 2am. And I wouldn’t want to go here at any other time. Secondly, it’s way too expensive for what it is I think they count on people being too hammered to think rationally about spending £7−8 on a fry up(but hey, their rationale works). Thirdly, last time I went there I stormed out before our order even arrived because I was so appalled by the way one of their male staff members spoke to me. True, it was about 4am and insanely busy but I was hungry, tired and definitely NOT in the mood to be offended. I haven’t wanted to go back since. All in all, this place offers bad pricing and(from my last experience) bad service. The only reason to go here is that nothing else is open, so I guess they feel like they don’t need to rely on anything else. My advice would be to check out their Fish ‘n’ Chip takeaway, Buddies Plaice, next door for much better value for money.

This place is so much better than queing up for a greasy, life-threatening doner kebab. They sell a really nice selection of food and they are, as the previous reviews state — open all night! You usually get a good mix of drunk people in there who’ve had a good night out clubbing. I’ve been there loads and never seen any fights kick off. Oreder yourself a pepperoni pizza, sit down and tuck in. If you have some good company, you’ll be there for hours and can grab one of their nice coffees to keep you going through the rest of the day!

Buddies is open all night. I’ll just let that sink in: all night. You cannot review Buddies like other restaurants: it is literally open all night. You can walk in off the street at 3 in the morning, order mussels in a garlic and cream sauce, and finish that bottle of Pinot as the sun comes up: a unforgettable experience for so many reasons. The chief reason to go to Buddies is the fabled Buddies all-nighter: grab some friends, head to Buddies at a reasonable hour, and don’t leave until the morning traffic has subsided. This is bloody marvellous, for easedropping potential if nothing else: the people who frequent are an eclectic and wonderful bunch. Last time I did this, a man punched a woman over a dog, some drunk students threw up on each other, and a man proposed only to be unsurprisingly turned down. What do you expect? It’s on the seafront, it’s open all night: who are they gonna attract? Drunk people and insomniacs, and neither really wants to be there. The menu is huge: most of it is awful. Stick to chips and well-cooked to avoid a premature end to your all-nighter. And if you’ve been clubbing, and want to stay up, pop in here to end the night with a more sanitary alternative to the kebab dripping down your shirt on the long, meandering walk home.

Too many times have I stumbled home from a seafront nightclub and found my way to Buddies, and I’m sure I will do it many more times as well. The joy of Buddies is that it sits facing the seafront, and that it’s open 24 hours a day. The menu is surprisingly broad, and perhaps even more surprisingly, it’s actually not bad at all. You can get pizzas or steak, burgers or even kids’ meals. The restaurant is clean and presentable, plenty welcoming on a drunken walk home. If you’re young enough, Buddies also offer a student discount just to sweeten the deal further.

Brighton’s very own 24 hour café bar. On the seafront and conveniently close to West Street, its round the clock license attracts drunken revellers spilling out from the city’s pubs and clubs in the early hours. It was featured on Channel Five’s Brighton Beach Patrol, the programme that highlighted Brighton’s rowdy nightlife problem drinkers, showcasing drunken fights, arrests and a sprinkling of vomit. Bad publicity aside, the café is popular with the masses, day and night, and they do a cracking breakfast. If you’re feeling brave enough for a 6am fry up after a night’s partying, you can wash it down with a pint of lager. As well as fry ups they do pasta, pizza, sandwiches, seafood and steaks, and next door is Buddies Fish and Chip restaurant which does takeaway if you’re just flying by.

Open 24 hours, Buddies is there to serve you with all your late night food needs. There’s a good range of all the standard takeaway meals — fish and chips, of course, but also burgers, pizzas and kebabs. It’s not just a takeaway either, but has plenty of space to sit down and eat, both inside and out. Yes, it’s a little grimy and at 3am can be pretty busy, but this is a Brighton institution.

This is my fish and chip shop of choice whenever I visit Casablanca’s, the nearby jazz club. After a few hours of good old, unadulterated partying, my friends and I will stumble down to Buddies and order ourselves a cod and chips, a battered sausage, or whatever else takes our fancy. The service is always fast, which is certainly a bonus when you’re a little inebriated, and the food definitely tastes good enough.

On a cold January day in Brighton, all you want is a hot meal and good service. We got it at Buddies. Decent fish and chips. Would be interested to see what this place is like in the height of summer though.
