Red Roaster coffee Smoothies Sodas Sandwiches Salads Soups Barefoot wines & Uninterrupted views of the Beach Which-ever way you look at it, Barefoot Café Bar sounds like an ideal place to chill out during the spring and summer. The real incentive for parents however, is to kick back with a coffee and paper whilst the kids take a class at Yellowave sports and activity centre. They can burn off some of their excess energy with their friends whilst you can enjoy a rare sixty minutes of peace, quiet and solitude. Classes book up quickly so I’d get on the phone pronto!

Barefoot Café Bar is a small café next door to the Yellow Wave Sports Centre, halfway between Brighton Pier and the Marina. As cafes go, it is nothing special: coffees, teas, cold drinks, the like: nothing that you can’t get up and down the beach for the same sort of price. The only thing really going for Barefoot Café is the location, and the weather has to be just right for that to be worth it too. Barefoot Café is, I believe, part owned by the sports facility next door, or at least set up and organised by them, and thus is clearly meant to be there for the outdoor volleyball players and people like that. With lots of cheap outdoor furniture, and lots of cheap cold drinks, this is obviously a good place to sit after a rough round of volleyball, but otherwise seems to serve little purpose beyond be a place where parents can sit while their children play in the large adventure playground next door. This is a perfectly nice little café, it just isn’t quite worth the step out halfway to the Marina. If you’re a sporting type, and want to go to play some sports, stop here for a drink after your busy game, just don’t come looking for this café on its own: it isn’t worth it.

I love the whole Yellow Wave complex that houses the Barefoot café bar. The whole complex is only a couple of years old which means that the surroundings are clean and new. The café overlooks the 4 beach volleyball courts, but is far enough away that the risk of a stray ball to face is at least somewhat reduced. The guy who runs the place is really nice, always friendly and giving advice on any Volleyball issues. As for the products, they’re pretty fine too. The coffee was up to the job of waking me up and injecting me with the energy to go have a mound of sand thrown in my face.

Slip off your shoes and relax your socks at the Barefoot Café Bar. Situated within the Nivea Sun beach volleyball complex, this is a café aimed primarily at the users of the courts for après-sport relaxation. But fear not, you do not have to strip down to your bikini, dive into the sand and shout«OUT!» a lot in order to chill out here. You can of course, simply come down for a coffee. I have mainly visited the Barefoot when playing beach volleyball, which works perfectly. The atmosphere is relaxed, it is exceptionally clean and there are great views of the sporty folk on the courts and the sea beyond. A favourite with mothers of toddlers who can play in the sand surrounding the courts and then pop off to the nearby children’s playground. Being located off the beaten track, it tends to be a «nice busy» i.e. not swamped and dirty, but not lacking a lively atmosphere either.
