Best your going to get for Indian pub grub in Birmingham, highly recommended. Nice warm family feel too

This modest looking pub actually offers a small, staple of indian food. The menu is not extensive, but the favourites are available, as well as their signature grill. The grill is various marinated meats on a bed of onion. It comes with some salad, a mint yoghurt, and a spicy tamarind sauce. All delicious. We shared a regular grill between two, and found this to be plenty. Even with healthy appetites. Though we did also have two vegetarian side dishes to balance things out a bit. As expected by the name, there are a number of beers/ales available. I am a spirits/wine/cocktails woman, so can’t comment further than that though. When we went, it was rather busy, and noisy. This seems to be a spot for after work drinks on a Friday night. So worth noting if you’re looking for somewhere quiet to enjoy some food, this might not be the place on Fri-yays.

A friendly pub that does a killer curry. This smart, clean and cosy family run pub is just behind the mailbox and tends to keep decent beers, ales and cider on tap. What it also does, instead of the usual pub fair, are a range of great Indian dishes at very reasonable prices. I particularly like the little crispy naan and the crispy bits that come in the rice(can’t beat a bit of crunch right?). Oh and when they say large grill they really, really aren’t kidding!

Formally The Gough Arms, this pub finally reopened as The Keg and Grill in August. I don’t live far so was looking forward to having a cosy local on my doorstep. I finally popped in for a work night drink and food on a Monday in September. The decoration is simple and modern but fitting for a pub. There was a jukebox so music wasn’t constantly playing but the TV was on. Mainly I could hear quiet chitter chatter! This isn’t a huge venue but only a couple of tables were free. A few youngish couples(I class myself in that bracket!) and a couple of post work drink groups. I spotted Doom Bar and Atlantic on tap but my partner and I both chose a pint of Stowford Press while browsing the menu. I was intrigued by the ‘grill’ part of the name and the food turned out to be Indian. The menu is small but with something for everyone. The vegetarian selection looks very good. BF and I had a naan each, the small tandor grill and lamb biriyani. The naan was hot, buttery and delicious! The ‘small’ tandoor grill was huge and could easily feed two. It included chicken tikka, lamb and chicken drumsticks. We were given an option of heats and we chose medium. This was tasty but not too hot! The biriyani was very tasty indeed with a good amount of lamb. I enjoyed the sauces that came with the food too. We will definitely be back to try the thalis available at lunch time!
