A new type of café on the Strichley High Street that offers an alternative to the Greasy Spoon variety, of which we have an abundance in B30. Unlike the standard interior of the traditional greasy spoon — wipe clean tables, a two-day old copy of the Daily Star — this place has gone for a smart and modern approach, with leather seating and clean, white walls giving the place an airy feel. It does a really good cup of coffee and also has WiFi, which, for Strichley, is a major step forward, and not something you’re likely to find in a more traditional café. The food is also a bit more upmarket(not that there’s anything wrong with a bacon sandwich, or a fry up) and there are some interesting combinations on offer. Well worth a visit.

This small eatery offers an Asian slant on coffee shop culture. In contrast to most of the cafes in the area that offer the usual fried eggs and bacon, a selection of Indian sweets are sold as well as sandwich fillings that reference Birmingham’s curry house culture such as Cajun or chicken tikka, as well as good coffee. The interior has minimalist seating upholstered in brown leather, and the rest of the décor is simiarly modern with white walls and metal fixtures. With meal deals starting at around two pounds only the completely skint will go hungry. Every time I’ve been in the service has been friendly. My only gripe is that the last time I went in, the Wi Fi wasn’t working. However, fix this and Deli Lush has a strong base from which to build as a buisness. I wish them success in the future.
