For a spell, I worked around the corner from the Lemon Grove, and on my lunch out, I liked to take a break from the daily drudgery, and take a wander around the area. After getting sick of bringing my own soup to work, and being tempted by the delicious food on offer here, I decided to give it a go. I had a couple of different things, mainly the pasta with pesto, chicken and cheese, and the chicken wraps, all served by the friendly gentleman who always seemed to work there alone(must be the owner) who was happy enough to accommodate my own adaptations to the menu on the wall. The food was absolutely delicious, and I miss it a lot, such a shame I’m not in the area any longer. Strange thing about it though, he only seems to open it when he feels like it. There were days I would walk round, only to find it closed, when on the same day the previous week it had been open!

This small café is built into the building that houses St. George’s Market(I can’t imagine how expensive the ground rent muse be for these people!) but it probably does quite well considering it is so close to the massive businesses across the street and the passing custom from the Market itself. It’s small, but perfectly formed, and quite popular too, by all accounts. I had the Spicy chicken(we called in during a rehearsal we were involved in across the street in the Waterfront) and it was really tasty actually and good value for money. Also they do vegetarian specials, and my ‘Special’ vegetarian friend was quite happy at actually having a choice for once — so everyone was content. The Lemon Grove is definitely doing something right.
