Café 31 is tucked away in North Street, Cathedral Quarter, Belfast. It’s both a café and gallery space with the café placed at ground floor level and Fenderesky gallery upstairs. It’s über cool with pure white walls, wooden beams, seriously great artwork adorning the walls and best of all serves delectable food and coffee. The menu is small but perfectly formed consisting of soups, sandwiches, croissants, danishes, cakes, teas and coffees. It’s economically priced as well. So far I’ve visited twice. Once to view the beautiful art exhibitions by artists Claire Carpenter, Bill Saunders and Neill Speers at which I had a great pot of loose leaf peppermint tea. Secondly just to indulge in a perfect cup of americano coffee and a feta, tomato and rocket sandwich. The food is delicious. I enjoyed it so much I sat on for a further hour drinking a latte(probably the best coffee I’ve ever had), charging my phone(the staff are very kind!) and surfing the free wifi. I picked up a Café 31 loyalty card(buy 8 teas/coffees and get 1 free) as I’m going to start visiting this place every time I’m in Belfast city centre. I’m an art addict, so for me a combined gallery and café is perfection, however I imagine everybody will love this beautiful café. It’s just such a pure, airy, bright and gorgeous space which can also be hired for events or functions. One small point is that they really should offer dairy free alternatives such as soya milk. However, that won’t put me off — Café 31 is my new favourite spot.

Forget the Mona Lisa this place is a work of art, a masterpiece dare I? Spacious, clean, light and brilliant white Café 31 has just joined the Belfast coffee scene in style. Whilst wandering the backstreets of Belfast I stumbled across Café 31 and I just couldn’t walk past without going in to see what was offer. I am glad I did go in because I think I have found my new daytime hangout. As I eluded to Café 31 is also an art gallery. They have modern art hanging on the walls and different art books laid out on each table. The décor is so minimal that you would swear they haven’t quite opened yet. Their coffee is great; I had my usual flat white which was served to perfection along with 2 wee ginger bread men. The lovely barista even brought me over a glass of iced water 5 minutes in to my coffee — it was a lovely touch. I don’t think many people know about Café 31 just yet as it was extremely quiet with only a few passers by coming in to get takeaway coffees. I heard the accommodating barista discussing different coffee blends and I was impressed — she knew her beans. I can tell the next time I go back to Café 31 it will be full to the brim with hipsters but for now lets keep it between me and you!
