This is one of my favourite pubs in Ambleside. Small and traditional inside, friendly bar staff. Excellent selection of ales that changes quite often. If any ale/pub/walking fans are in the area, this is one you cannot miss.

Excellent local pub with a quality selection of real/cask ales. The Golden Rule features numerous indoor and outdoor seating areas, and draws a good mix of locals and tourists. You know a pub is good when you see a barkeep from a rival pub there after his shift is up! I didn’t get any food, and understand that there’s only a limited snackish selection. I saw one person get a Scotch egg, and it was MASSIVE! The bar staff was friendly and welcoming, taking time to talk and joke around. Good, fun, friendly pub with good ales… what more can one ask?!

Still love it! I really love the fact that even when it is very busy, there is always somewhere to find a seat so you and your friends can have a chat! I also like the little rooms off the main area… it helps spread out the masses. Still my favourite pub in Ambleside!

A really nice pub. Slightly off the main tourist route through Ambleside is definitely a positive and helps to set it apart from many others around.

A real pub for real people. Genuine straight up deal without lots of fuss. A decent pint of Robinson’s Bitter and the Scotch Eggs shouldn’t be missed.

Definately the best and friendliest pub in Ambleside. Its located on Kirkstone Rd at the bottom of the struggle. There is a great selection of regular and locally brewed beers, the staff are very friendly and has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. They don’t do food as in meals though there is usually a selction of homemade sandwiches and ppork pies on the bar. There’s also a small seating area outside at the back of the pub, dogs are welcome too.

Absolutely the best pub in Ambleside! Good ale(again, I’m not obsessed, I swear!), dog-friendly(again, you’re proably sensing a theme here), attracts similarly-minded ‘active in the day, find a good place to drink in the evening’ kinda people. Hidden away off the tourist track slightly, no airs or graces, just a decent pint. Some brilliant parties, usually unplanned!
