Good way to get your Indian fix for cheap. Masala offers great value when you consider their set lunch/​dinner costs about as much as one dish at some of the more notable Indian restaurants. Friendly staff as well.

For about two years of my life I was completely obsessed with the Indian cuisine. Samosas, garlic naan, butter chicken, and the list goes on, all these foods I’d devour within moments of the plate hitting the table. Fortunately for me, and my waist line, my obsession waned to an interest.
Masala is one such restaurant that I visited over those two, fateful years. If I can recall correctly I went on three occasions during lunch to sample their lunch sets. Like many other Indian restaurants I’ve been to they offer, on the whole, simple curries, a soup, some rice, naan, and a drink — all for the price of $ 60 to $ 100 buckeroos. Not bad if you ask me. I love a good naan bread, freshly baked with a soft inside and crunchy, slightly burnt skin and here they do it quite well, I’ve had better but I’ve also had much much worse. The same goes for their curry, it did the trick, filled me up, had me perspiring, and downing glass after glass of water. It was full of flavor, thick, and with a fair bit of meat. The soup, on the other hand, was a mystery to me, one that I rather did not want to solve. Anything thing that is green (Cream of broccoli soup) and healthy I maintain a safe distance from it.
If I’m on my own I’ll take the set lunch and be done with it. If I am with a friend, however, I get really excited because it means we can split a portion of samosas, and this food item they do very well. The mint sauce tastes authentic and the samosas not too oily — and I’ve eaten my fair share of samosas.
There are a huge range of Indian places to choose from, most of which offering similar menus. I’m happy to say that, though not spectacular, Masala provides my Indian fix, and keeps me unafraid to come back for more.
