Restaurant traditionnel. Décor vieillot. Service chaleureux. Le poulet est très bon. Le dessert grand-mère était excellent!!!

Had lunch here and the service was incredibly quick. The fries reminded us of Mcdees, which to us was a very good thing and the chicken was lovely and tender and moist. The piri piri sauce(or oil) was smokey and spicey and so yummy. Definitely an affordable and easy place to consider. It was comforting to eat here.

Like many other folks here, I was desperately looking for a Nando’s like place in Portugal, and this is the closest I got. Although the chicken was incredibly moist, and fall-off-the bone delicious, their piri-piri sauce(served on the table with a brush) was oddly tart and off-putting. I wish I could’ve brought my own sauce because the chicken was quite tasty. Their fries were good, but tasted like they may have been frozen, not fresh. Lastly, for all you foreigners — they will bring you things to the table as soon as you sit down, like bread/butter, fish cakes and you may think this is complimentary… it is NOT! Not that you’re paying an arm or leg for it, but know that you will be paying for it if you eat it! I can’t complain though, since half a chicken was 5.50 euros!

Everyone was telling me about the chicken here. Had 5 meals today already but since it was my last night in Lisbon, I had to try. Some of the best damn chicken I’ve ever had. Wow. Be careful of the spice, I had very little and it def has a kick

Very tasty piri piri chicken! I read about this place before finding it and was not disappointed. I was a bit confused as they have storefronts on both sides of the walkway and not sure if there is a difference in service. The whole street seems to have some good options but for the chicken, definitely worth the stop!

I have never had a more horrible service experience in a restaurant. Just let that sink in for a minute. At the conclusion of the meal, our waiter kept aggressively repeating«no service, no service» as my husband attempted to pay with a credit card. We were not sure if the credit card machine was broken or what. When the waiter began to yell at us, I told my husband we should just pay with cash – when the waiter began repeating«cash» I realized that he was demanding a tip, which was not included in the bill. I am not exaggerating when I say that the waiter was loud, aggressive, and rude. He also refused to serve our food although he served his other patrons, placing portions of what they ordered on their plates from the serving tray. The whole experience was very stressful and didn’t justify the chicken. Note that, like other restaurants in Lisbon, several dishes will arrive at your table when you sit down and these are not included(cod cakes, bread, cheese). These items came to approximately 10 euro on the check, so be sure to decline if you’re on a budget.

Bof!

Here is thing about Bomjardin. I have been here many times, and yes the chicken is perfectly good(especially if you had previously thought that Nando’s was piri-piri chicken), but the place is a bit over-rated and if you look you can find equal or better chicken elsewhere. The problem with Bomjardin is it has become the go-to tourist spot for chicken and the area is a tourist trap. The servers deal with tourists all day long and have about zero patience or sense of humor. Sadly, you can tell that its just getting through the day for them. The sides are literally just some steamed veg, or some just OK fries, and some totally plain salad. You go for the chicken, but every time I leave I end up wondering whether it was all really worth it?

I wanted to try chicken piri piri an all the reports point here. Outdoor seating in a street full of resturants. Fast service and touristy. Rotisserie chicken and salads. The sauce is at the table and you can lather on as much spice as you can handle. Yummy but touristy. Wrote about our full time in Lisbon if you need more travel tips on .

After relying on Nando’s for the past year to survive the high cost of eating in Singapore, it was a joy to be able to experience real piri-piri chicken(not the apparently South Africanized«peri-peri»). I learned the hard way that arroz a brasiliera means rice with chicken livers. The house red wine is great. So is the mixed salad.

This was one of my most amazing finds from the aid of Unilocal whilst away in Lisbon last month. On our last night I took my friends promising this was the best place in town to get Peri-Peri chicken. We went on our last evening before heading back to Manchester and work… in the busy restaurant district we arrived around half 9 as we had become well accustomed to eating late like the locals! My friends were tempted to try some of the other chicken places close by but I was determined we HAD to try this place. We decided to opt for a seat outside and the waiter came over in good spirits taking our drinks order — I went for 2-euro glass of wine that was opened at the table and filled to the top of glass in good humor! Me and a friend opted for the normal peri-peri chicken with a side of fries with normal spies whereas our other diner was brave and went for the spicy chicken… It all arrived within half an hour and with a mountain of fries — we really should have ordered one between the 3 of us! The chicken was delicious — we each had half a chicken, which was perfectly spiced and just fell off the bone. Our friend’s mouth on the other hand was on fire; the waiter did pre-warn us however all our plates were polished off! You may overlook this place just walking past but its definitely the best traditional peri-peri place in town!

We loved this place so much that we went back a second time. The roasted chicken is really fantastic and has great flavor. We also enjoyed the mixed salad and fries. Definitely would recommend this place for a meal. Prices are very reasonable as well.

I admit, i thought the piri-piri chicken is somehow more then it actually was. It’s a simple dish, it was still a very good chicken with a hot piri-piri sauce from the table. If I hadn’t read about this in Unilocal I think I would not have chosen this restaurant. It looked touristic and not very confi. We sat outside, the atmosphere was not great, but ok. The piri-piri sauce was in a terracotta jar and other people had used it before us, which didn’t look very hygienic to me. The waiter was friendly and spoke good English. The chicken is always for 2 people, so the price is quite good. Additionally you order the side-dishes, this seems to be relatively normal in Lisbon. Despite the jar and the simple dish I would still come back here for a very good chicken, if I’m in Lisbon. –The food(65%) taste *****(5) look *****(5) ripeness *****(5) price ****(4) –The location(20%) cleanness ***(3) ambiente ***(3) atmosphere ***(3) –The service(15%) friendliness ****(4) flexibility ****(4) attention ****(4) total: *****(4.4)

Considering how big a Nandos fan(Nandoite perhaps) I am, it was pretty inevitable that I’d check this place out. Word of caution if you came to this review searching for Nandos. There is no Nandos in Portugal. However there is Peri Peri chicken everywhere On landing in Lisbon, top of my list was to find the best Peri Peri chicken restaurant and have dinner there. This came highly recommended so I headed there. The chicken comes really quick, from order to serving was about 5 mins. Not much Peri Peri sauce is on the default serving but the sauce is on your table to add as much as you’d like. The chicken was soft and quite tasty. I must say though the lack of choice in Peri Peri sauces was a little disappointing. Nandos you have spoilt me! That aside it was really great chicken. Beware it’s a proper restaurant so everyone around was using a fork and knife to eat their chicken. I ended up spending all night fighting the urge to just grab it with my hands. I didn’t actually try so I can’t say what their reaction would have been. I guess I was chicken: D

Taste it, You are gonna like it.

Portugal is known for its great food, but as a non-seafood eater I have experienced some difficulties, so as a goodbye meal I chose the«legendary» Bön Jardim(according to my google search. We arrived there at noon, it was already pretty crowded with both tourists and local, and no photos outside, which gained my trust. The menu however — was in many languages, very typical to the city center… Also– there a well known«trap» here in almost every restaurant, try serve you bread and butter, and if you eat it they’ll charge you for it, it’s not complimentary. However, the bread is so tasty and rather cheap, so I didn’t mind. The food is served quite quick and the quality is good, we started with the bread, and moved on to a whole chicken, roasted with Piri Piri — very juicy and tasty, there’s some more Piri Piri oil on the table to add on the chicken– do it! We also had fries, rice and a little salad on the table which were good too This restaurant left me craving for more chicken, yum! I’ll miss Portugal :(

I have been delaying my «frango» review simply because I want to revive my happy experience after some time from my Lisbon visit has elapsed, now when memories are trying to fade away it’s time to write about the BEST grilled chicken. We ran to Bonjardim after our visit to Sintra that involved a lot of hiking, meaning we were hungry. We had the crazy idea to have a take away and head to Praça do Comércio, watch a world-coup game shown on a big screen and drink beer with our chicken. The restaurant was empty around 5pm and we were directed by the waiting staff where to buy our chicken. Their grill for take away is literally hole in the wall, but how wonderful is what you see inside, mighty chickens are rotating on spits above the charcoal. The kid taking care of them obviously knew what he is doing. Our chicken was cut in pieces, piri piri and lemon juice pored generously, and we rushed towards our destination. Eating chicken on the square turned out to be challenging and of course messy, the place was packed(Portugal being one of the teams playing that day) and we were quickly joined by four paws friends, who stared demandingly at our chicken. But what a chicken it was, juicy, tender, delicious! All these chicken emotions demanded another proper visit to the restaurant, which did not disappoint. The place was very busy in the evening, full of both locals and tourists, but we were quickly accommodated at one of the street tables. No idea where was our chicken grilled this time, but it was as delicious as the first one. The service was great and we had another happy«frango» encounter. Last comment, I live in Montréal, city with strong population of Portuguese origins and numerous«rôtisseries» that are very proud of the quality of their grilled chicken. As good is the chicken in these places our Bonjardim chicken consumed on the square remains one of the best I have had in my experience. Must try in Lisboa!

Peri peri chicken! I had the frango assado with a mixed salad and fries. The chicken was more like a rotisserie chicken, but with the sauce it adds a lot more flavorful to it. The meat was tender and moist. The leg of course always tastes best. Beware of the bread and cheese, they charge you 4.70 euro for it. It’s near the tourist street but a bit hidden off. I recommend coming here for dinner, service is okay, a little slow on getting the check though.

So I actually really like Nando’s, but Bonjardim is the OG of peri-peri roast chicken, the ur-chicken from whence it all came. Even the breast meat, which I normally avoid like the plague because it’s too hard to get right is palatable here, and dare I say, even quite tasty when brushed with a quick application of the housemade peri-peri sauce, which comes in these little earthen jars on each table. I should probably put sauce in quotes, because it’s actually just straight up chili oil more than anything else, with tiny seeds floating around. Crackly skin, tender and seasoned meat, a good amount of spice and heat. All this for the backpacker-friendly price of 6.80 euros for a breast and a thigh. So good I went twice in one day. Pro tip: a light touch with the chili oil is advisable, if one does not wish to suffer gastrointestinal destruction 24 hours later. Proceed with caution.

Went for the piri piri chicken. Our party of four loved the no-frills neighborhood ambiance. Don’t look at anything too closely! Full of locals(mostly old men and families with kids since it was much too early for dinner). Waiter was efficient and part of the experience. We’d go again.

Oh my lord! Just get the chicken and fries. Its a nice roasted chicken with a salty Smokey taste. It’s like heaven. Paired with French fries, creamy spinach, and a bottle of grandjo’s… it’s a perfect introduction to Lisbon. Not too expensive also. A cute spot with 16 tables that are almost constantly rotating and full. Yum yum.

Amazing chicken from the spit! Get it with cream spinach and skip the fries — the portion is big enough to fill you up and the fries are nothing special. The cheese that comes with the bread is really good too. Consider splitting it among three people. We also loved their Grandjó white wine! Hat tip to the Portuguese gentleman we sat next to on the plane who suggested this place to us(and 6 others we will try next!)
