La Place

So, as a tourist in Utrecht this is an absolute must, and one of my favorite places. Not because of the food, but because of the view!
La Place is kind of like a small foodcourt. You walk around to different stands and find what you want to eat. In the morning you find a various of different breakkie offers, and later you’ll find lunch or dinner. This time around I went there a Saturday morning, and of course the place was full (mostly old people and families). We ordered coffee and went straight for the window seats.
The coffee was great and at a decent price. So absolutely go there for a coffee break.
The main part, as mentioned is the view! Because at La Place you’ll find the best view over Utrecht. Straight at the dome, and all around it. In summer you can sit outside at the terrace. But in winter they have made sure to have giant glass windows all around the building, so you can enjoy your morning coffee while being warm. Amazing place, but not a lot of tourists find it, as it is on top of V&D.

I used to shy away from this place as I thought it to be too expensive for a quick bite, but nowadays I love to come here for lunch, whether it’s to have some quality time with the boyfriend or to catch up with a friend. They have great sandwiches, although an expansion in the vegetarian options would be mucho appreciated. I do love the whole grain ciabatta with cream cheese, chives and lettuce and also love the salad bar. If you want maximum bang for your buck, take the second largest bowl and pile it up; seriously, make a salad mountain!
Also they serve soups, freshly made pizza’s, meat and fish from the grill and an array of pastries, smoothies and desserts. Everything made on location, mostly in the morning, so super fresh and they use a lot of fruit in their pastries and desserts; yum-​mee!
The view from the roof’s terrace is also amazing.
The only reason I’m rating this place four stars instead of five is because of the crowd that eats here. Half the people are just normal people and the other half are annoying, anti social people who quickly dive in to steal the table your walking towards while expertly balancing your handbag and tray with food and drinks; frustrating!
