Gauchos

On valentines day we decide to go too utrecht. We find a cosy place on the canal .
I order a steak with Frits, i really enjoy it .my steak was perfect grilled just how i like it!
Must try the place, it ‘s a romantic place to go with your partner. definitely worth trying if you’re in Netherlands

A real Argentinian steak house right on the canal, what more can you ask for?
It’s really hard to find a gooood steak, but once you found one, you’ll never forget. In Gauchos they bring you all the cuts to show off and tell you a little about every type of meat and the best temperature for them. Meat and steaks there are delicious without doubt, as well as their special Chimichurri.
But there it stops. The fries are awful. You know these pressed ones they serve in McDonalds? Gauchos’ fries seem to be even worse. All the sauces, except the standard chimichurri are also bad. Baked potato with sour cream seems to be the only acceptable side dish.
I tried almost all the steaks and decided to try the grilled shrimp. They were delicious, but let’s be real, 3 not so big shrimps for € 12 is not quite realistic.
Overall, worth a visit, especially that they have several locations allover Netherlands. We are going to the one in Utrecht, but you can see all the restaurants on their website.
Take a steak, chimichurri and a side of salad or baked potato and you’ll be happy.

Ce restaurant argentin est situé au centre de la ville d’Utrecht, au bord du canal, dans un joli décor à l’extérieur, très caractéristique des villes sur l’eau des Pays-​Bas. A l’intérieur, il fait un peu sombre, mais c’est chaleureux, à cause des voûtes et des murs en pierre. En revanche, la musique de fond est trop cliché et gâche un peu l’ambiance cosy. Cela peut même casser les oreilles à la longue. Heureusement, la nourriture est meilleure. La carte propose des grillades, de la viande. On peut choisir le poids de sa grillade, selon son appétit. Le prix variera en fonction de la taille. En revanche, pour une viande standard, l’assiette tourne autour des 20 euros. Attention, les contours sont à part et se payent séparément, comme il est souvent d’usage dans le pays. Il y a le choix entre divers produits. Par exemple, des légumes de saison grillés coûtent 4 euros. Les frites aussi se payent à part. Tout est en petite quantité, ce qui fait que l’on peut commander plusieurs contours avec sa viande (mais la note augmente, bien sûr). Question goût et qualité, tout est très bon. Mais cher J’ai un faible pour l’un des rares plats de poisson: l’assiette d’espadon grillé. C’est tout simplement délicieux. Le prix est de 19 euros. Ce n’est pas bon marché, mais rien né l’est. Une petite bouteille d’eau minérale revient à 2,40 euros et l’expresso à 2,75. Il faut compter une trentaine d’euros pour un plat, un contour, de l’eau et un café. Et je n’ai pas demandé, d’entrée, de frites ou de pain (payant, bien sûr), ni de dessert, ni d’alcool. Le vin est vendu au verre (que le serveur né remplit pas en entier) trop cher. Le personnel est aimable et pousse à la consommation (ce qui est tout à fait normal dans les restaurants aux Pays-​Bas). Mais ici, on mange bien

Das Restaurant ist sehr schön an der Gracht gelegen. Wenn man draußen sitzen kann, hast man einen schönen Ausblick. Die Steaks sind ok, aber sich nichts besonderes. Die Bedienung ist sehr langsam und bedingt freundlich. Die Beilagen sind etwas sehr knapp bemessen, werden aber nachgereicht. Es gibt bessere Steakhauser.

Wirklich nett gelegen, quasi im Zentrum und direkt an den Grachten.
Leider konnten wir wetterbedingt nicht draussen sitzen, mussten also in die grottenähnliche Lokalität nach innen gehen.
Wirklich nett gemacht, sehr rustikal UND DUNKEL !!! Dunkel mag zwar romantisch und stimmungsvoll sein, aber hier hat man echt Probleme eine Speisekarte zu lesen. Mittels Kerzen und Feuerzeugen ist uns aber auch das gelungen.
Die Speisekarte bietet ein recht rundes Bild in Sachen Fleisch, Fisch, Pasta, wobei natürlich das Steak die Kernkompetenz des Hauses ist.
Und das war mal so richtig Spitzenklasse. Mundgemalt, auf den Punkteinfach lecker. Dazu kann man sich auch eine Vielzahl an Beilagen und Saucen bestellen. Speziell die Saucen sind ein Highlight. Beilagen wie Wedges, Pommes & Co. sind eher bescheiden dimensioniert und wir mussten nachbestellen. Hier haben sie uns dann Pommes geliefert die fast im Rohzustand waren und kalt (wurde dann auch nicht berechnet).
Der Service ist eher schläfrig. Wer richtig Durst hat sollte gleich 2 Getränke bestellen, denn all zu oft bekommt man die Bedienung nicht zu Gesicht.
Alles in Allem jhedoch eine Runde Sache bei exzellentem Essen und schönem Ambiente.

Standard Gaucho restaurant. Good location on the main canal in Utrecht. Very central. Get down the stairs to water level and then you get to the entrance.
The whole restaurant is in a «cave» under the street. No windows. Very rustic with cow skin on chair to give a more Argentinian Gaucho atmosphere.
Meat is good… the spare ribs eat as much as you can is a good deal.
Whine selection is limited but they are quite nice.
The dulce de lece crêpe at the end is a real killer… a bit heavy but I like it.
Over all I think the quality/​price ratio is not very good. Too expensive.
Service can be good or just average… depends who is serving you.
The tables are very small and cramped one to the other.

Das Gauchos liegt direkt an der Gracht und man erreicht das Lokal über eine recht steile Treppe. Man sitzt draussen sehr gemütlich direkt am Wasser, im Innenraum eher rustikal, aber mit viel Platz.
Der Service war ein wenig sehr lahm und wir haben mehr als einmal auf den trockenen gesessen. Das war nicht so der Hit.
Die Steaks waren ok, aber auch nicht wirklich eine Offenbahrung. Durch die nicht sehr gleichmäßigen Stücke war mein Medium Steak teilweise mehr als well-​done und der größte Teil eher rare. Rare ist ok, aber well-​done ist ein no-​go für ein gutes Steakhouse.
Vorspeise vom Haus gabe es leider keine. Bei den Preisen wäre sicher ein wenig Brot angemessen gewesen.
Fazit: Bei den Steaks braucht man wohl ein wenig Glück, langsamer Service, aber nettes Ambiente.
