Great restaurant! Went for lunch and had the best goulash I’ve had outside of Hungary. Great beer selection, too, and the waitress was helpful as far as translating items for us.

The is one of those must-go places. Very traditional with friendly staff and great ambiance. The French Onion soup was delicious and hit the spot on that chilly day. The toasties are very simple, but also delicious. It is a small food menu, but it will be good! Grab a Dutch beer and a bite to eat while enjoying the feel of this restaurant in a busy but cool area.

I was glad I followed my instincts and checked Unilocal as a friend joined my wife and I for a spontaneous visit to Maastricht. Not only were the people super friendly, this little pub RIGHT by the VVV Tourist Information center had both Westleveren 12&8 on hand. It’s not on the menu but, thanks to a fellow Unilocaler in Europe, I knew to ask. I’m not sure it is the World’s greatest, but is damn tasty. Food for a lite lunch was also excellent. The Camabert sandwich and the French Onion soup were both outstanding. The young lady who came from behind the bar full of locals was friendly helpful and quick. Great beer, great food, great service… what else is there to love about a pub!

I was lucky enough to visit Café De Knijnspiep with my Wife and her family(Margo & Willy) one evening. I had read before my trip to Holland that this was one of the few places where I could try arguably the best and rarest beer in the world-Westvleteren 12. Not only did they have it but they had its younger brother Westy 8 as well. I had no what to expect being an American in a local bar. Well I could not have had a better evening with such gracious hosts! I can’t begin to tell you how kind and fun these people were. Not only was the bartender fantastic but also the locals who frequent this place. Truly kind and fun people. To top it off, the owner welcomed me with open arms-explaining to me a bit of the history of this place and letting me check out his elaborate(and I’m sure expensive) music system. You name the song and he had it! He really went out of his way to make sure I felt like a guest in his wonderful place. It is much more charming than anything we really have here in the US, especially San Diego. Full of character and history… and an amazing selection of beverages! Do yourself a favor and DONOT miss this place if you are in town or anywhere near Café De Knijnspiep. I can’t wait to go back.
