Looking for a a lunch after arriving at the train station, we stopped here on the main square for lunch. A good selection of drinks and food. On a cool spring day the outdoors eating area was full of tourists from all around Europe and a couple from the USA. We had a nice afternoon.

Pancake craving drew me to this place in the Delft market. Food: 3.5 stars. Ordered fritter snack appetizer, bacon pancake, tap beer, and jenever(local gin-like alcohol). Fritter appetizer was tasty and a good value(11 euro for 16 piece). Pancake was good but left something to be desired. Tap Wieckse beer was good. Jenever was too bitter/strong for my taste. Service: 5 stars. Waitress was extremely friendly. She provided pancake/beer recommendations and even helped me charge my dying phone! Bottom Line: Good meal & solid service, but pancakes were not the best I’ve had. Probably would return if in Delft though.

Het Gulden got the job done for us on a drizzly first night in Delft. I had the schnitzel with«stroganoff sauce». The schnitzel was a bit over done but still very nice and the sauce was more gravy than Stroganoff but the whole package worked for me. This was served with some really delicious grilled(?) veggies — a great, generous mixture of squash, broccoli, beans etc very well prepared — along with some very good, perfectly cooked oven-baked potatoes. Clearly there is someone who cares about food working in the kitchen and turning out delicious plates of food. My wife got a savory pancake which was also very good. They have a full bar of good things to drink and also some deserts that sounded tasty. There are a few of these places to chose from on the Markt in Delft but Het Gulden turned out to be a good one for us.

This place must be a tourist favorite, since it’s located at a prime location; the main square of downtown Delft. Outside seating with heaters make this place a great people watching experience with the comfort of warmth. The atmosphere is like a tavern with small quarters, but watch your step because it has levels to it, not clearly marked especially if you aren’t paying attention or had one too many of the local beer Palm or Heinken. Pancakes!!! This place has a variety of pancakes ranging from cherry, banana, and for the bacon lovers, they have bacon pancakes. All fruit or meat are infused into the pancake. Worth a try. The staff is friendly when I was there and they have wifi, but you must ask the server for the password. 11Nov2012, was the code when I was there, but double check with the server.

Here we go, I’ve been here before, some time in summer and this place was packed with tourists from all over the world. The restaurant is right on the historical marketplace of Delft, one of the most beautiful towns in the Netherlands. Right now in winter, it’s quite and you can take pictures of the old buildings in town without being pushed around by hordes of tourists. The restaurant is good, a little bit old-fashioned and has got great international food as well as regional specialties. Try some«Boerenomelett», one of my favourites.
