ANOTHERGOODSTAY I’ve stayed at this hotel with Him Indoors three times-each time has been great! In fact, we’re just back today from another very pleasant stay! The rooms we’ve always had have been on the fourth floor; they are large, clean and comfy! Just what you need after a day of walking around Amsterdam… the first time we stayed we had a jacuzzi in the bathroom; unexpected bonus! :-) Rooms are cleaned and made up daily with clean towels etc… I know it’s daft, but I loooove when hotels aren’t stingy with replenishing soaps/shower gel etc!!! ;-) They’re definitely not stingy here! I forgot to pack the shower gel, so we used the supplied one, until I remembered to get some, I thought… funnily enough, it wasn’t top of my list of priorities in the land of Rembrandt and Van Gogh, so I KEPT forgetting to buy it… buuuuuut, it was fine, they kept getting replenished-EVEN when we’d only used a teeny wee bit… HURRAH! In the reception there’s a reeeeally handy wee snack bar, with pizzas, pastas, chippies etc… as I say, HANDY! Recently, they started renting out bikes at reception too, which is a great wee addition… and they don’t take a howwwwge security deposit, I assume because they have all your stuff in the hotel, so you’ll not do a runner-ha!!! Staff are on the whole nice and friendly; howeverrrrr, there is one staff member who clearrrrrrly does NOT like his job very much at ALL… one night we were waiting at the snack bar for 10MINUTES whilst said staff member WALKEDPAST us numerous times, not even saying«will be with you in a minute» or anything!!! He didn’t even acknowledge our presence… We ended up leaving and returning later when we knew the good guy would be working! But this is LITERALLY the only bad service we’ve ever had at this hotel!!! So I like to keep it in perspective… ;-) To be honest, this hotel will not suit folk that want to be right in the centre of the Amsterdam Madness(the technical term!!) as it’s a 15 – 20 minute tram ride to the south; I love the tram ride into the centre, though-it takes you right through some cool areas for exploration, past Vondelpark(a must do-there’s a Picasso sculpture in the park!!) and through Leidseplein, an alternative to the centre with bars, clubs, restaurants etc… We first came to this hotel as it was verrrrrry budget-friendly, but we keep coming back as it’s STILL great value for money, but also we know what we’re getting and this is a quiet wee hotel juuuuust outside the Madness… I already know I’ll be back!

What do you get when you combine a hotel room without air conditioning in the summer and windows without screens? A mosquito graveyard! Upon arriving, there were already multiple mosquito corpses and red splotches on the white walls, and I’m happy(?) to say I probably I more than doubled their number. And, oh, during my final afternoon not less than three employees who were clearly not maids opened the door and casually walked in while claiming the need to check on something. In one of those instances, I was on the toilet so the guy helpfully opened the bathroom door as well. Now that’s service! This hotel wasn’t entirely without its charm, however. The room door overlooked a scenic astroturf garden, and one of the television channels had topless women advertising phone sex. Or maybe it was advertising actual sex given that it’s Amsterdam after all. I don’t know; I didn’t call. All this on the very edge of the city at a hiking distance from the nearest subway, trolley, or bus! Summary: Mosquitoes, creepers, and phone sex.
