I was fortunate to visit a few fishmongers around town during my stay & was really taken with Smit. The woman behind the counter was friendly yet professional & the herring was grand. –firm, fresh herring served with a smile. The butter pickle garnish made it all the better!
In addition to herring, fish cakes, fried shrimp and other tasty treats are to be had at Smit’s. If I’d had a kitchen while in A’dam, then I would have purchased something to cook up at home as the selection looked quite good.
Smit also has a wee display of sushi accoutrements including dried seaweed and wasabi. One can also buy single lemons. –nice touch.
Fish fans take note: Fishmonger Smit has proper herring. Do yourself a favor and order a few to eat in-​house (Steh Café style) or to take away.
