Convenient tiny store with a nice amount of choices and lovely owner. My friend was looking for some Yorkshire Tea and I was determined to find it! With a little help from my other friend, Unilocal,I found this store, check the website and saw that they had it! Of course they have more than just tea, but also very British souvenirs as well. Doctor Who mug, anyone? Anyway, super fun store, nice lady, good selection of tea and other needs for the Brits(or even Americans) abroad! Great location on the corner by Overtoom, and just happened to be on my way home. But for good tea at a good price, why not stop by?

The British General Store is a typical 1960s corner shop as you expect to find in a TV-series like Coronation Street. The owner, Linda, comes across as a character that should have a role in the series! The shop has an eclectic selection of British foodstuffs, souvenirs and knickknacks. Jars of pickles, chutneys, jams, rolls of ginger nuts and other biscuits, deep frozen breakfast sausages, Linda sells it all and piles it on the shelves, the floor and wherever she can find a place. Don’t expect supermarket anonymity here; if you come more than once you’ll probably friend the store on Facebook to keep up to date on the offerings. Every now and then Linda will poll the FB friends group to see if there’s an interest in a new product, for example the hottest chilli sauce in the world or such. If you are a British ex-pat or a Dutch aficionado of British food this is the place to go to get your goodies. Recommended!
