In the past three years, I’ve gotten two body waves(perm) to give my roots volume and hold my daily style better. By doing this, I can use less product to hold my style, and thereby allowing for soft, flexible, touchable hair. Lovely. Anyhow, after looking at their services, I went in person to this place for a quick consultation. The girl who does the perms say they only use one solution for perms(Wella brand), but didn’t think it was strong enough for my hair. I have had a Wella perm before, but of course she didn’t know which formula she was talking about or whether it was an acid or alkaline perm. Most formulas have a mild solution for color treated/overprocessed/porous hair, regular solution for regular hair, and strong solution for coarse, resistant hair. My hair was color treated, but healthy. So the mild or regular solution would have worked fine. But she didn’t know enough and didn’t feel comfortable doing it cause she didn’t think I would like the results. Clearly someone needs to go back to school. Anyways, they listed perms starting at 30Euros on their website(must have been pricelist from the 80’s), cause in person they quoted me 130Euros! Whoa. That’s like $ 200 for a budget salon. I had a perm in San Diego, California for $ 65, and a perm in Manhattan, New York for $ 80. So something just doesn’t sound right :( If anyone knows of a reasonably priced place for a perm with people who put in a tight rolls, send me an email! That is the secret to getting a good perm-taut, tight rolling of the hair.
