One of the better places here in Amsterdam to get a good cup of coffee. Excellent hosts, and the baristas know what they are talking about. Extremely well situated and a good places to chill out in between walking around town.

We went here for our first cup of coffee in Amsterdam. That set the bar very high for the rest of our little trip to Amsterdam, in terms of not only the quality, but also the service and the general interior and feel. Going for just a cup of coffee here feels a bit insane. It’s not only a café with great coffee, but also a wine bar and restaurant with a very slick interior. Being used to the more rustic or Scandinavian feel to speciality coffee places, it at first feels a bit off, more suited for the fine dining experience. But as soon as the baristas gets going with full on service and advice about bean selection, it almosts feels right. The flat white was bordering on perfection, with my only complaint being that the foam was a tad too much macro instead of micro. But seriously, you have to be a bit of an insane coffee fanatic(!) to complain about that. The V60 filter coffee was really very nice and hit spot on in terms of what we had requested.

How happy and lucky was I to have found this place smack dab across from my hotel. Food was exquisite. Pick the focus of your desired course(e.g., beets, duck, cucumber, etc.) and the chef will prepare you a surprise dish based on the protein/veggie. Dessert was creative and beautifully presented. Mini edible apple composed marshmallows on top of not your everyday taart. Service was good initially although I had to search around for the check to arrive, until I just went up to the counter to pay.

That’s what the Dutch would call«vis nog vogel». From outside it seems to be just a normal café but when you enter you’re suddenly in a cool, modern wine bar. And not only are they specialized in wines but also teas and coffee(to close the circle). But this Screaming Beans is actually a posh restaurant in disguise: The dishes are fancy and delicious, an exciting mix of ingredients and flavours, styled like for a food photo shoot(like you know them from pricey places). And most of all: you get service here — decent, attentive, genuinely friendly service. I’m curious to come back to verify my first experience and willing to spend the 5th star.

Used Unilocal when in Amsterdam to find a lunch place near our hotel, Fusion Suites. This place popped up near the top of the list. It’s a coffee café(not shop) which also serves wine and offers both lunch and fine dining style dinner. We went for lunch and had some of the sandwiches. Very good. Plus they offer quite a few wines by the glass, so there should be something for everyone. Service was great. We recommended it to other hotel guests.

Popped into Screaming Beans for a drink with my husband to avoid the rain that seemed to plague our Amsterdam trip and I’m glad we did! Had a great glass of white wine in a lovely atmosphere. Loved the entire wall of wine bottles in the back and the entire feel of the place. We sat in the cushy chairs up front and waited for the rain to subside and people-watched. Can’t speak for the food, but the menu looked tasty!

What a lovely place. Sit outside and watch the passersby between De Baarsjes and the Overtoom. Wine and coffee under the heated lamp is pretty great for a relax unwind. We got snacks to accompany our drinks, and the people next to us seemed to have some nice food being served. Would go again!

I enjoyed my evening at Screaming Beans. The place has a nice atmosphere, it’s smart but somehow informal at the same time. Maybe it’s the name or just the culture of coffee but I did not feel overwhelmed or under pressure. The interior is quite tightly laid out and the bar is way to big for what is required even for a place that size even if it is due purpose(coffee house/restaurant). The décor and furniture is nicely done and the floor to ceiling glazed wine bottle rack wall that separates the kitchen from the restaurant really is a master stroke and very impressive. How about the food. We had 3 courses and all but the dessert were 5*. All courses were beautifully presented in a de-constructive style but the desert just did not work for me. Confused and unbalanced with nothing really that made you want to go wow. The starter and main course certainly did have the Wow though and for that I would recommend a visit if you like to try some fine dining cuisine in an environment that seems to work dispite it’s slightly confusing layout.

Best coffee I’ve had in Amsterdam. Very pricey, but mostly excellent coffee(some misconceptions about coffee though, and they can be a little snobby without the quality to back it up). Pleasant atmosphere, and generally a good place to hang out and enjoy some coffee, or in the evening, wine.

So, I always thought of filter coffee the American way: as drip coffee from a machine. I ordered the v60 with costa rican coffee beans, which was on the Screaming Beans biweekly rotation. I usually take my coffee with milk and sometimes with sugar, but this filter coffee(hot water poured into a V shaped funnel) needed no accompaniments. It was perfect the way it was– pure nutty coffee richness with zero hint of sourness, and delightfully light. I also had the lemon meringue tart, which was a nice combination of tart and fluffy creaminess. Service was fast and accommodating. Would definitely recommend a stop-in if you’re shopping in the Jordaan!

I’m sorry, but I don’t need my coffee with a side of pretentious b.s. Too much. Looked like an amazing café until the staff started«educating», at which point I went across the street to Koffie Salon.

1. I like tea, when good? Than I love tea. 2. There is no(NO!!!) reason to wait 25 minutes to get water to boil to the right temperature. 3. There are tea rules??? Fak me. Okay, I’ll wait 4 minutes to get perfect tea… 4 minutes passed, and the waiter told me «he» would do it for me. …so he left me to myself(I was still nice at this time!) …and I got bored after 5 minutes, poured myself a really lovely cup of silver tea. A very small cup of silver tea, I must add. 4. My friend and I waited a full 45 minutes to get her coffee. A drip. Coffee, people… It’s okay to go crazy, but really!!! Do we need to spend 4 eurootjes on a drip coffee that took so long to get there it was luuuukish warm when she was ready? 5. Breakfast. Ordered. And after about 25 minutes. maybe 20… I thought, «Fak! He didn’t ask me what kind of eggs I wanted!!» so, I walk in. Order a normal cappuccino and ask if i can just get a soft boiled egg… looking at my watch, realizing i have spent 1,5 hr there already… and only 10 minutes left for breakfast, I cancel my breakfast… Oh wait! The order was never placed? Dude! There were only two tables outside and one guy drinking beer at 11! …he was the wine dealer btw, I thought it was a nice touch, hehehe! Maybe that is what we should have done. Drink! …cause do we really need 25 minute coffee? When I ask the waiter about it he snappishly said: «We have a tea that you have to wait 24 minutes for too!» 6. The«okay-can-I-just-have-a-croissant-I-have-no-time-left» croissant didn’t show up. The waiter however did! Not with the cappuccino I ordered 5 minutes ago… nooooo… With a little breakfast tray. What? Yes my dear! He said he worked as fast as he could to get it for me anyway… whilst mumbling excuses he was fiddling with the ham. Yes my dear, he was rolling and stroking the slice of ham in front of us. Why? Please, if you love it so much? Do it in the kitchen where I can’t see! 7. The croissants showed up. We didn’t have to pay for them. 1 drip coffee(she said it tasted like sweet tomato, that’s great if that is your thing :) 1 silver tea(good!) 1 cappuccino(can’t remember, too pissed off… probably good thou) € 9,60 I believe. 2 free croissants, left really hungry. The whole eieren-eten is… I live around the corner, would love to have a another great hangout. They are super friendly! Just… well. It sucked! Now I don’t really want to walk in on an evening and have a really good glass of wine. I dont and i hate that… Okay, deal to myself: try again. Just drink wine.

This place was so unbelievable… The type of horrible service and experience which leaves your mouth hanging open in disbelief. First, I order a coffee 10 minutes before my friend arrives. Around 10:40am. She arrives, and orders a tea. At 11:30!!! We still have NOTHING! The place is EMPTY except 1 other table. The server comes out to say that they don’t have any of her tea choices, so she just chooses another. Finally they come out with special drips and teas and containers and ??? And tell her to wait 4 more minutes for her tea to steep. And my coffee is an filter drip that comes out tasting like some bizarre, thin, what is that??? Tomato soup? Well, by now we are starving, and the baby is getting restless. She orders breakfast, thinking that it couldn’t possibly go as poorly as our first round. Well 20 minutes later she goes inside only to find they have completely forgotten her order. She says, forget it– just give me a croissant. Our server comes back out with 2 plates, trying to bring out the breakfast he forgot, and here is where it gets so UNBELIEVABLE!!! 1 plate has sliced ham, which HEISROLLINGUPONTHEPLATEWITHHISBAREHANDS!!! RIGHTINFRONTOFUS!!! SERIOUSLY! By this time we are just like? Are we in the twilight zone? Candid camera? Banana split? Our mouths hanging open in a mixture of disgust, and shock, and disbelief; we just ask to pay and are dying to just get OUTOFTHISPLACE. My review? I would give them negative stars if I could. Worst execution of the simplest orders, I have ever experienced. Do yourself a favor and visit the many neighboring coffee places. Do NOT go here.

Best cappuccino I’ve found in Amsterdam. The croissants were perfect as well. They even add a tiny square of brownie to your saucer for sit in customers.

This place is all about coffee, wine and fine dining. Strange combination? No. Brilliant combination! Screaming Beans serves some of the best coffee in town, they did that for a while already in the Hartenstraat in their coffee bar there, but now you can also taste some delicious food here in Old West. The place looks very chique and gorgeous. Love at first sight! I went with some of their delicious coffee today, a flat white, which it’s always my favorite choice. I also tried a ham sandwich with red onion chutney and mustard. It was very delicious. Also had a bite of the chicken sandwich and it was very good as well. There are also pastries, croissants, pain du chocolat and small bites to go with some wine(even a selection of 3 small mini dishes for 11 euros, wanna-try!). I haven’t tried any of the small dishes myself but I have heard they are very good! They come in different price ranges(10 euros, 15 euros, 20 euros, 25 euros) and you can combine them and share them. There is also a special tasting menu, which is more expensive(120 euros??). Unfortunately the tasting menu is a bit to extravagant for a student like myself but I certainly look forward to coming back and trying some of the smaller dishes with some wine!

I’ve never given 5 stars, but this place deserves every one. Exquisite food, expert staff, pleasant location. Most impressed by the knowledge of the servers and the creative cuisine. A «must-do» in Amsterdam. Enjoy!

This big, second, location of the coffee specialists Screaming Beans is so much more than just a coffee bar. Here they have a large space where they also serve proper food, small bites, pastries, tea and a wide range of wine. I mainly came for the coffee though and had an excellent filter coffee(Ethiopian made on the V60). The first waitress I spoke to referred me to their specialist when I had some more specific questions about the coffee so it appears not everyone working here is in to coffee. May also be a benefit to have a chat about the coffee first as more care may go in to making the cup after that(not only true here but in most places). As mentioned the coffee was great, not sure it was the best but for sure top three on my Amsterdam list of coffee. I had a look at the wine menu as well and it looks interesting so will probably visit some evening for dinner with some wine. I did however try a chicken Sandwich. It was one of four different options to choose from and for each one can select either regular(white) bread or multi-grain. To be a sandwich loving people the quality of sandwiches is normally awful. This was not at all bad but also not something I would order again, flavor was ok but the chicken felt a bit spongy in the texture and the bread was very standard. Still a very nice place to sit and relax with a cup of coffee, plenty of space(both inside and outdoors) and free wifi.

This place serves some of the best coffee in Amsterdam, in chic surrounds. The broodjes are delightful also.
