I’ve been there three times for a highlight & cut. Each time with the same stylist and I’ve requested the exact same service — highlight my brown roots so they match the rest of my light blonde hair, without too much overlapping of color(as to prevent additional damage). Each time the services have been different and wrong. One time my roots were bright orange while the rest of my hair was blonde, one time the color of my roots did not change at all, and one time I had orange in the front and blond in the back. The cuts have been fine but in a country with so many blondes, how does a ‘Senior Stylist’ not know how to properly highlight roots? For now, I’m sticking to getting my hair colored in the US when I’m on holiday or using US-bought at home kits and only getting my cuts at Rob Peetoom.

I found Rob Peetoom through an Expat website, and the Unilocal reviews looked decent. After getting my roots bleached & toned here, I understand why the reviews are just ok. Every 10 weeks, I get my black hair bleached & toned into a very light beige blonde. It’s not a easy task but doable(see my other reviews). My hair colourist at Rob Peetoom was senior colourist Puck, who was really nice and friendly. She chatted with me about my hair — what other colourists usually do, how they do it, and how long it takes… She decided to do the roots in one go and put my head under the heat. I’ve had that done before and was ok with the process. However, I didn’t really like the way she put bleach on my hair. She slapped it on rather hastily and didn’t care if the bleach overlapped with the part that was already bleached. As a result, A LOT of my hair fell out after washing!!! After 30 min, she decided to rinse the bleach out. Usually, I have to wait 1 – 1.5 hours for the bleach. Obviously, the colour wasn’t light enough. So she had to use a permanent toner, but that couldn’t remove the brassiness entirely. After shampooing/conditioning/drying, she had to use another toner — a demi-permanent one this time — to correct the brassiness. Finally, that fixed the roots, which matches the rest of my hair. But the part where the bleach overlapped is still lighter than the rest of my hair. Maybe it will even out a bit in the next few days… maybe not. Given that so much hair has fallen out during the procedure, I’m also a little worried about its healthiness. So I put some Kevin Murphy Born Again(protein) at home. Overall, I’m not completely satisfied with the outcome and cannot recommend this salon for colour. Maybe it’s good for regular colour(no bleach). Regardless, there are many salons in Amsterdam in the same price range — I paid 76EUR for bleach+toner. I think I will try a different place next time or visit my colourist in London.

I came here once and got my hair cut by a student. That’s the first and last time I’ll make that mistake. She didn’t understand anything at all and had to bring in the master stylist, and even he couldn’t quite figure out what I wanted, despite showing them multiple pictures of the haircut from different angles. So unprofessional.
