We got a groupon for the boat tour, so for 25 euros my husband, my 2 year old and myself got a 75 minute cruise and all-​we-​could-​eat pancakes, which is pretty sweet. I asked for gluten-​free pancakes in my reservation, but they didn’t actually cook them until the boat was on its way and I asked one of the waiters where the gluten-​free pancakes were. She said she’d have to make them for me right then and there, so I had to wait another 10 – 15 minutes before I could eat while everyone else was chowing down around me. So be sure to ask for the gluten-​free pancakes as soon as you get on the boat so you don’t have to wait around.
If you don’t want gluten-​free pancakes then you can just pick them up from the back of the boat and add some sweet or savory toppings on them and pig out to your heart’s content. Your choices are bacon, apple, or natural/​plain pancakes. The toppings vary from chocolate sprinkles to cheese and cold cuts to marmalades and sambal. So you can make lots of different variations.
This is a great place to take kids. There is a ball pit, and a nice staircase for them to climb up and down and up and down. And most of the people on the boat seem to have kids, so you can easily have a cruise with your kids without annoying other people on the boat.

We were lucky enough to have our driver take us to his home town in Broek in Waterland and introduce us to this beautiful old café. The building is over 400 years old and has a lot of really cool pictures detailing its history. Not a tourist attraction at all, everything is in Dutch but I assure you the food was amazing. We ordered pancakes which is a huge part of the menu but it’s not like regular pancake. It’s like a crêpe married a pizza and they add bacon! Highly recommend! Their mint tea is also delish!

Das Essen auf dem Pannekoekenboot war sehr entspannt. Kurz nach Fahrtbeginn wurde das kleine Buffet gelüftet. Man kann sich zwischen Bacon-​, Apfel– und natürlichen Pfannkuchen entscheiden und diese dann süß (Streusel, Früchte, Marmelade, Butter, Zucker) oder herzhaft (Salami, Kochschinken, Käse und weiteres) belegen. Es wurde auch wirklich bis zum Schluss immer alles aufgefüllt. Getränke gehen extra.
Die Pfannkuchen waren wirklich äußerst lecker und wir haben uns ordentlich satt gegessen.
Bei der Atmosphäre auf dem Boot gilt zu beachten, dass das ganze natürlich stark auf Kinder ausgerichtet ist und dementsprechend vor allem nach Öffnung des «Bälle-​Bades» immer Kinder ein wenig Krach machen. Uns hat es jedoch nicht weiter gestört. Schade fand ich, dass während der Fahrt keine Infos zur Hafenrundfahrt gegeben wurden, man schipperte einfach ein wenig durch die Gegend.

It’s a boat cruise where you can devour all you can eat pancakes for about 1.5 hours. What else needs to be said? The pancake boat was a really unique experience in Amsterdam. The pancakes were really good, and since they have a bar on the boat you can suck down some beers while enjoying your pancakes. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. My one complaint is that some of the toppings didn’t taste great, but that’s very minor. Otherwise, we had an awesome time.

Awesome concept. 1hour cruise with all you can eat pan cakes. A ball pit for kids and a quiet zone above. Reasonable pricing and a tour with a good view for both good and bad weather. Highly recommended.

Über die IJ schippern, dabei so viele Pfannenkuchen, wie man vertilgen kann, in herzhaft (mit eingebackenem Bacon), süß (mit Äpfeln) oder natur, dazu ein reiches Büffet an Käse, Schinken, Früchten, Schokoflocken, Krokant und Marmeladen wem läuft da nicht das Wasser im Mund zusammen? Vom Pannenkoekenboot hatte ich vor vielen Jahren erstmals gehört und für mich stand der Entschluss fest: wenn ich jemals nach Amsterdam komme, wird das definitiv ausprobiert. Gesagt, getan, also tags zuvor dort angerufen und genug Plätze für unsere Gruppe auf der einstündigen Hour Cruise reserviert. Alternativ hätte es auch 2– bzw. 2 ½-​stündige Touren gegeben: die Family Cruise mit zusätzlichem Eiscremebüffet, die Children’s Party mit Gesichtsbemalung und ebenfalls mit Eiscreme, die abendliche Pancake Cruise mit ausführlicherem Büffet, das noch zahlreiche warme Speisen einschloss, sowie die sonntägliche Brunch Cruise. Klang alles lecker, aber uns hat die günstigste Tour gereicht, zumal wir dank der Jahreszeit die Rundfahrt im Hellen beginnen und im Dunklen abschließen durften. Und da wir dabei unsere Ruhe haben wollten, nahmen wir Platz im oberen Stock des dreigeschossigen Boots, während sich die Kinder im Kugelmeer des Untergeschosses austoben konnten. Alles in allem also eine sehr durchdachte Angelegenheit. Auch was den Ankerplatz des Boots angeht: dieses kann man nämlich kostenlos mit der Fußgängerfähre zwischen dem Hauptbahnhof und der NDSM-​Werft erreichen. Unsere Erwartungen (und unsere Bäuche) wurden jedenfalls allesamt erfüllt :o)
