The prawn crackers were awesome, the prawn-pork-carrots salad was not to my liking, and the beef phở was a-ok. The noodles in the phở soup were not the vermicelli noodles I was used to — a bit fatter, flatter, and strangely choppy. They didn’t give me sriracha off the bat, but not to worry, it was provided immediately after I asked for it, although they had the flying-goose-brand instead of the proper rooster brand. Phở 91 in De Pijp was much better, but if you’re in a pinch and you need phở, this place will do.

Good food but bad service. This is what went down. I was craving spring rolls because I haven’t had much Asian cuisine since I have been studying abroad in Italy. I am from California where there is a plethora of Asian cuisine: Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Indonesian, etc. When I arrived to the restaurant, the workers were originally friendly. Excited, I asked if they served Thai Tea which I was craving as well as the spring rolls. The man who was serving me then looked at me strangely. I guess Vietnamese restaurants serving Thai tea wasn’t a thing in Amsterdam. Slightly embarrassed, I said that Thai tea is usually served in Vietnamese restaurants in America to give logic my supposedly weird question. The man was nice. He said no and told me other tea options. But then I started to hear giggles from the other two workers who were both female. I heard them talking something about«boba»(Taiwanese dessert drink). I was curious, so I asked one of them if boba was popular in Amsterdam. The waitress gave me an unfriendly and sassy response back, and said, «I’m sure there are some, but I don’t know any good ones». Shortly after I hear and SEE her talking to the other female worker about my question. They then giggled some more. When I was ready to order, I asked if the summer rolls on their menu were spring rolls. I wanted the rice paper cover rolls. And in California we called them spring rolls. The waitress then made a «why are you stupid, silly American» sound and said no. The spring rolls listed in their menu are fried which in my book are called egg rolls! RUDE. Thanks for making me feel stupid, ladies. I don’t care that the restaurant calls the dishes differently. I wasn’t trying to tell you to change to the«American way». I wanted good food and to be treated with respect like any other human being. Don’t gossip about me in front of me. Also have more patience for genuine questions and acknowledge that there might be some differences! Kudos for the man was nice who opened the door for me and was patient with me about my Thai tea question. The spring/summer rolls were yummy but it would have been better enjoyed with some more respect.

Excellent Vietnamese food! And seriously I’m really picky when it comes to a good Vietnamese food. Great service, excellent location, and fantastic menu.

Although I heard the sandwich was delicious, everything I ordered was totally flavorless. We were even brought salt and pepper to the table to season things ourselves. I’ve never even seen Salt and pepper on any table in any Vietnamese restaurant before. Service was slow as no one made eye contact with any of the customers, you had to hope to catch someone by waving them down. I left most the food uneatten.

Wonderful place. Very simple menu, not so good for vegetarians, but incredibly fresh and wholesome. Understated and elegant. Good value for money, charming staff.

Solid vegetarian dishes. Their veg. vermicelli with spring rolls is especially good — large portion, good dressing, pickled carrots, veggie sausage spring rolls, and fresh herbs all balanced nicely!

The staff was very friendly, which makes me want to give them another star, but the food and service was really just good, not great. Sat outside to enjoy the weather, but maybe they were really busy inside? They forgot our drink orders and brought our dishes out at different times. The food was good, but we were left awkwardly taking turns eating and watching each other eat.

Should be 3.5 stars. The staff is a little bit rude, but the food is consistently tasty. Cute place, delicious banh mi, tasty phở and spring rolls. Haven’t found tastier Vietnamese food in Ams, so until I do I will put up with the bad service.

Super friendly chef, easy to find location in Amsterdam and average Vietnamese food. I got the bun rieu(tomato/seafood based soup with noodles) and my date got the bun thit nuong(bbq minced pork over vermicelli). Not a lot of Vietnamese places in Amsterdam, but Little Saigon in Chinatown had a bit more flavor(but spotty service). Would come back to try other items due to friendly service if ever in the area again.

Serviceable Vietnamese food next to the office — sweet. I had the«O Skool» banh mi, which had cold cuts and pâté. I’m sad that there was much less pâté than anything else, but it was decent. I’m missing the sliced jalapeño, though, and I’m still mad about paying like € 7 for something that used to cost $ 2.50 back home. Their iced tea is pretty awesome, though, if a bit of a rip off for € 4.

My impression of O Mai was initially positive. It’s small and homely, a perfect getaway from the insanity of Rembrandtplein. The wall is adorned with multicolored paper birds, the furniture Ikea-esque with a small serving bar in the center. Great for a couple or small group of friends to enjoy an evening. The food was delicious. I ordered #32, cold vermicelli with grilled pork. It came with a chili fish sauce, one of the better sauces I’ve had in my visits to Vietnamese restaurants in my travels. The pork was grilled just right and very flavorful. The service was friendly enough — as an American I’m used to being served in record time. This is not that place. My waiter, despite his youth, explained the sauces and dishes to me in detail(my expectations of a younger waitstaff is low based on prior experiences). He was very polite and patient, albeit his sense of urgency was lacking — I’m spoiled in this regard, I know. #murica Definitely worth a try if if you’re in the mood for some good eats near Rplein and want to avoid the crowds. I’ll definitely return.

Well. I grew up in small town in the middle of nowhere where my mom cooked me potatoes with vegetables and a piece of meat everyday. So how was I supposed to know that the weird looking salad were the veggies meant to go into my beef noodle soup? Still a great ffffccckknggg soup, by the way! Wasn’t it for my small town ignorance this could’ve been a-ma-zing. I had some chick spring rolls on the side, which were awesome too. For desert I went with the vanilla cake with caramel. Decent piece of bouncy cake with a nice caramel sauce that lacked just a little salt. Talking about weird looking… My friend had the rice balls with bean paste in some strange white liquid. Check the photo and you probably get the problem with the visuals. Tasted good, though.

I really loved this Vietnamese restaurant! The fresh springrolls are awesome. They come with three exquisite dip sauces, especially the peanut sauce. I was here with my sis and a friend and it was almost embarrassing(ok it was embarrassing) we asked 4 times for a new one haha. I loved the banh xeo(vietnamese pancake) too, they are delish! The interior is very minimalistic and sober, which reminds me of the places I have been in Vietnam.

Summer rol vegetarisch. Helaas erg waterig.

I wanted to go to one of the Vietnamese places for some time already and I had a chance last Saturday. O Mai is quite simple in décor and as someone already mentioned reminds a bit of the fast food place or milk bar(like we have in Poland), but very clean one. I had some traditional banh mi with pâté. When the sandwich arrived I noticed the long black hair on the plate… gross…I mentioned it right away to the waiter and the plate was gone. I was pretty sure that they would just move it to the clean plate, but no. they made a new sandwich for me with a lot of apologizes. Food was very good and very fresh. Will definitely come back for lunch when in neighborhood. Next time I will try one of the noodle bowls.

Very simple décor inside, very tidy. Liked the clean presentation of the food. Ordered vegetable and taro spring rolls, which were good but the herbs that it came with were wilted already(wtf?). Also ordered two noodle bowls: Bun rieu and phở. Both were good, broth was light, but nothing out of this world. The main negative was the price. For a couple of noodle bowls and two spring rolls we paid about 40 €! Sticker shock being from the US, where a bowl of soup costs an average of $ 7USD. Hence the 3 stars.

Food was awesome. Full of flavour and tasty. 3. The fresh roll was awesome. 4. Vietnamese drip coffee is real. Will definitely recommend the food here

Ai, ai, ai. O Mai God. This must be the best Vietnamese restaurant in town. Love the raw beef drenched in lemon & the spring rolls with chicken and taro. All hands up for the bánh xéo(crispy Vietnamese pancake). Such a joy to eat: shrimp, pork and herbs wrapped in a rice flower-coconut milk-turmeric pancake. Close to movie theatre Tuschinski. The ultimate movie night: a love seat at Tuschinski & dinner at O Mai.
