Great spot outside the more touristy areas that’s warm and inviting for all. The kind of place locals visit. Started with the scallops which were good but somewhat unremarkable. Next time I might try the Duck Rillette instead. The Spicy Aubergine Salad is amazing and could make a vegetarian out of the most determined meat eater. The fantastic blend of seasonal veggies and spice make this dish more than the sum of its parts. For dinner I continued the Aubergine theme with the Sea Bass cooked in banana leaves, a Max Favorite. Again, a wonderful job creating the delicious flavor of Aubergine style done right. The fish was delicate and the banana leaf cooking style packed in intense and delicious flavors. Portions were perfect and presentation was beautifully done(I was so eager to eat I didn’t snap pics). Extra credit to my waiter who was kind enough to add a splash of chocolate to an espresso martini for dessert. Additionally, the wait staff was courteous and attentive without being intrusive which can sometimes happen when dining alone. Will I come here again, absolutely — and so should you.

Almost $ 100 for 2, no wine, for small dishes with rice that quality-wise was similar to food court(mall) «cuisine». Why bother when there are much better places to eat at in the city?

Best meal during our 10 day European trip. I started with asparagus with mushrooms. What a treat! Next up, Vegetable curry. Wonderful flavors but not overwhelming. Everything was so light yet filling.

Best meal that I had during my stay in Amsterdam. I tried 4 different recommended Indonesian places and this has the freshest and most interesting dishes. We got the 3 course menu each and loved all 6 dishes that we tried. The salmon and scallop appetizers were both outstanding. Well balanced and delicious. We also lived out 22nd starters, the chicken in roti(nice flavor with a little spice) and the beef. Finally we enjoyed the duck which was more of a European presentation, but delicious, crispy and moist, as well as the sea bass. Good service(for Amsterdam) in a nice setting and fairly good portions and value.

What a cute place! Best meal in Amsterdam! Very delicious food and great flavors! The owner was super friendly and they had a good wine selection to go with the 3 course set menu we had!

This place is superb. For what you pay, it’s insane. Great value. The flavors of the food are unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. The chef deserves major props for putting together the menu. Every course was just as good as the one before it. Wish I had more time in this city, I would eat here again. Service is great too.

whilst in Amsterdam i really wanted to check out max We went for the 4 course a la carte menu. The confit duck leg was amazing and perfectly cooked, we went here in October and remembering how good it was is making me want to book a little trip again. For dessert, I had the crispy banana pie with coconut and rum sauce. Without a doubt the most delicious dessert ai have ever eaten, warm, sweet, sticky and the flavours perfectly chosen… the rum sauce complimented the banana pie so well. I have eaten at several michelin starred restaurants(including Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner where I had the famous Tipsy Cake) and this single dessert beats them all hands down, Worth visiting just for that dessert. Lovely meal. Surely deserves a Michelin star?

Inviting, spacious interior. Our first Indonesian meal, but this being Amsterdam and considering Max’s reputation, we were willing to try. Happy to report food was very good, as was service. Available tasting, but we chose ala carte.

Delicious food and great service! Would definitely recommend while in Amsterdam! And for such a reasonable price a 3 course meal!

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but there was nothing special about the food and my duck was over-salted and not very tasty. I’ve had a lot better. Staff was good.

Die indonesischen Gerichte sind zum Reinsetzen, selbst, wenn man wie ich bislang indonesisch nicht wirklich toll fand.

Upscale Indonesian cuisine in the Jordan area of Amsterdam. While I may have preferred a more traditional place(Amsterdam is home to the best authentic Indonesian food outside the island nation), the food here is very good. My entrée, the Bang Bang Redang, was a deeply flavorful and spicy take on a classic beef curry dish. The spice was not palate assaulting, but rather slowly builds as you eat the dish. The result is a growing feeling of warmth that spreads throughout your entire body by the time the plate is finished. That’s what the Heineken extra cold is good for.

Just ate here last night, and was pleasantly surprised. I have lived in Amsterdam for 2 years now(time fly’s) and I would say this was one of my favorite meals I have had here. I started with the asparagus and trout with curry cream sauce, then had the spicy seabass, the favors were great. A friend had the scallops with Carmel sauce and though the sound ofit was a bit scary, I gave it try and it was yummy.
