Lyppens is a shop I came to know from one of my favorite vintage jewelry websites, so when the Mr & I knew we’d be coming to Amsterdam for the weekend, I marked this as a destination stop, so I could check out their offerings in person Well, I think I’d built it up in my mind to be much more than it was in real life because it did not meet my expectations at all There is a man-trap to get into the place so I assumed we’d be looking at high-end pieces.(There were no signed high-end pieces that I could see) The shop was extremely small but there is a lot of jewelry to behold. Unfortunately, the displays are jumbled together & the pieces seemed to be thrown on the tray(no presentation) & as a result, everything just seemed old & unpolished & unloved. A specific ring I had seen online was not out for display but when I inquired about it, they went to the back & got it out for me. But after I tried it on, I felt like I was surrounded by their staff on the off-chance I might try to run off with it… which would have been impossible since A — I’m not that kind of person & B — please see above reference to man-trap Prices are extremely high & while they will negotiate the cost, we never got to that point. I had advised the person helping me that I wanted to go think about the ring — which turned out to be antique-style & not a true antique. She advised me we could discuss price when I got back But how will I know if I even want to come back if I don’t know what your best price is — it would have helped me in the thinking process if I had had a firm figure in mind And with the info I was presented, I did not feel the need to return… so yeah, I’ve experienced better

This is for sure the best ‘candy’ store for little and big girls. For more then 50 years jewelry store lyppens is situated in the heart of Amsterdam. A small narrow building which is crowded with customers every hour of the day. In all these years they did not change anything of the interior and that makes this very full store very approachable. But don’t be mistaken, a group of 36 people work here in a very close team and most of them with a long record of service. Their hospitality is enormous and their knowledge of affairs superb. You can really find anything you are looking for. They sell antique as well as modern jewels, table silver, little gems to precious pieces. It is also possible to sell your unwanted jewelry to them or have them make a new piece out of it, because they have an in house team of designers and goldsmiths. In short, a concept in Amsterdam, but also far out.
