I ate fries every day when I was in Amsterdam, but I loved this place so much I returned twice. My friend claims this as the best friet place in the city and I would have to agree. They make them fresh in front of you and even have a bag of potatoes out front to drive that idea home. I was lucky both times and didn’t have to wait in line. My first time I split a large fries with mayo and onion and the second time I tried it with curry. Hands down — mayo is the way to go! Even if you think you don’t like mayo, try it. It’s not the same white stuff you get out of a charge in the US. This is aioli-type goodness. Delish! Fries are exceptional. Eat them here. That’s all there is to say.

On a mission to find the best friets in Amsterdam is not an easy feat — pun intended. LOL So during a recent trip with my globe-trotting aunt who thought that she had tasted them all, we both whole-heartedly agreed that this was THE best freits that Rick Steve’s failed to mention and we frequented 3 times that wonderful week. So many sauces, so little time to try them all. BONUS: Order your frets first and while waiting go grab a beer, preferably a DeKonnick lager on TAP, next door at the bar and hangout while enjoying both. Then… one might want a WAARMCOOKIE and across this tiny street on Heisteeg is Van Stapele Koekmakerij where they only sell one kind of a cookie; its chocolate, baked fresh, and warm. If anyone asks tell them the neighbors sent you. :)

I hear that there is one Friet place in Amsterdam which rivals Frietsteeg, but I find it hard to believe. I will go test it out of course. I don’t think I need to make a big review over a fry joint but it worth mentioning this is one of the best. They are fresh made in house so it doesn’t get much better than that in this day and age. Loads of sauces to choose from too, even house made ones. Worth a stop if you are in the area.
