The absolute best sunny terrace in Amsterdam west… with the worst service and average food. This venue should be getting a brilliant revue considering their grand terrace on a sunny summers day. Sadly not even the fact that you can sit in the sun all day on its beach style seat set up will help them get a better score than these 2 stars cause there are many other great places in Amsterdam. Maybe the sun isn’t always shining somewhere else, but at least service will be better anywhere else in Amsterdam. I have now been here a couple times on a sunny Sunday with a good book, cause trust me you cannot go here thinking you will be in and out for lunch. Now you might think«but if you have been here several times and you bring a book it must be nice», I am sorry to burst your bubble but no… The reasons why I have come here several times with a book are: — its close to home — the terrace has sun all day — I can people watch a bit I do not come here to: — expect service — eat good food If that is what you are looking for I suggest you find another establishment where they do care about providing service and a decent meal. But if all you want is to hang out and sit in the sun amongst people then this is a nice alternative from a park.

The food is average, as are the drinks. At night this place transforms into yet another wine bar, a bit pretentious for what it really is. But during the day and evening, you can hang out on the terrace in one of the coolest areaa. Guaranteed obnoxious tourist free, you can obseve muslims, hipsters, studentes, yyppies and old amsterdammers. What’s not to love?

Du Cap would get 5 stars for the location, the furniture and the huge sunny terrace. BUT the service is so terribly bad, every time I come here I regret it in the end. Be prepared to wait a long long time before you can even place your order. The last time I was here with a friend we ordered two beer. By accident they brought them to the guys at the neighbour table and they accepted them thankfully, not mentioning that they hadn’t ordered them. When we found out and pointed our waitress to her mistake she reacted very gruffly. Yesterday my friend was there before me and already got his coffee before I arrived(now you wonder how much earlier he’s been there — I don’t wanna know). I sat down and waited for someone to come out and serve me. There were only two more guests sitting outside. When the waitress arrived, she did some things on the neighbour tables and then went back in without noticing me. To make sure I could order at all(I only had 2 hours time) I went inside. When we asked for the check the waitress only calculated my friend’s consumptions. As soon as he had paid she walked off. First I thought that she made him pay the total, but no. So I had to go back inside again. I explained the situation to the other waitress and when she checked the items that were left to pay it turned out that there was a mess. She called her colleague and she asked me again if I didn’t have what was listed in their system and if I had been sitting inside first etc. I know, I’m too honest, I could have just walked away without them noticing to spare me the hassle. Next time I do for sure. I don’t want to say the service staff at Du Cap is unfriendly but they just have no clue what they’re actually employed for.

On a nice day you really can’t beat the patio. I come here mainly for that. I’ve eaten here several times and I’d say the food is a bit hit and miss. I get the impression the kitchen staff changes a lot and the food is so inconsistent. I’ve ordered the burger few times and it’s always quite different. Sometimes good and sometimes okay. But I would say that’s the safest bet. I had the Eggs Benedict once and it was pretty bad. The Chicken salad on toast is okay but not worth the price. The service as well can be hit and miss. Sometimes even if you order a drink it takes a while to get it. Again, I come for the patio in good weather mainly even if the food is mediocre.
