So I had dinner at a friend’s house last night and she made this incredible«pasta» made out of zucchini. Did you know an entire zucchini only has 45 calories??? What!!! And it was delicious! So of course this is my new favorite thing and I had to have one of these thingamajiggies that you slice the zuccini into spaghetti with. Where does one go to purchase such an item? Deksels of course! This great kitchen store has every gadget you could possibly want or need in your kitchen, and scores more items you don’t need but are really cool to have ;) Why not five stars? I guess the only reason would be the price. This store is pretty expensive but hey, you get what you pay for and I went home with an imported German new best friend. That’s worth a lot right?

Deksels is one of my favorite shops on the Haarlemmerstraat. As regular cooks, we like to equip our kitchen with new implements from time to time, and it’s always fun to spend a few minutes here and see what we’re missing. The staff is wonderful and takes pride in showing the entire catalog of products to customers. The selection is top-notch, but they do try to cater to every price-point possible without compromising on quality. I have bought knives as well as small things like an oil sprayer from Deksels. It’s the perfect spot to start your Saturday afternoon at!

This place is filled floor to ceiling with all sorts of kitchen doo-dads. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but once I managed to focus my eyes on all the individual offerings, I found some great stuff here. I think this would be a great place to register for your wedding, since they have unique and innovative kitchen and dining accoutrements that you won’t find anywhere else, especially not someplace like the Bijenkorf. The woman behind the counter explained that they travel around the world and purposefully look for things that nobody else in Amsterdam carries. This would be a great place for a tourist to visit as well, since they could get real Italian glassware without having to visit Italy. :) On my first visit I walked away with these darling colored Italian glasses that were only 2.50 each and came in a set of 7 so I have a real rainbow of glasses in my cupboard. They’re very handy for guests to be able to tell their drink apart from everyone else’s. I also found a Japanese cast iron teapot that normally would cost $ 100-$ 250 for only 55 euros. Everything I got was so unique and was so inexpensive, it felt like a real steal. The shopkeeper also explained that there on the same street is another Deksels store for cooking tools and also a Deksels restaurant that applies all this collected cooking knowledge to tasty sandwiches and delicious dinners. They make sure they have all of your culinary needs covered!
