De Ruyschkamer

This is a super hip little hole in the wall that does the basics well. They only sell the cool beers (none you can pick up from the Heijn) and it’s honestly like walking into someone’s living room.
After we stumbled in on a Wednesday evening, the pseudo kitchen informed us they would shut in about 45 minutes.
They have two menus, one for food which is actually from a restaurant place down the road and another of their liquid offerings and small tiny bites.
Pizzas were ordered, appetizers too and beers and wine (of course), then with their no fuss service and a too cool soundtrack in the background, the night was pretty wonderful all in all.
Considering it was a Wednesday evening, by the time we left, our little watering hole was almost full to the brim. Hipsters, neighbors and random extras seem to be loitering and forgetting it’s a school night.
If you’re in the neighborhood, do try the Pinot Noir, it’s award winning and delicious! Either way, it’s worth a look in for the people watching alone!

I finally strolled up in here for a green smoothie. Love the smoothie. Seams like a super cool place to stop in for a drink or healthy smoothie. Also great location if your interested in having a private party. Owner seams super cool as well. De Ruyschkamer reminds me of someones livingroom in Amsterdam. There is different furniture set up all over the place, it is so Dutch. So, I think the name is definitely fitting for the place.

I like the concept of Ruyschkamer. It seems that you could spend hours there enjoying their coffee in a living room setting. All the pieces of furniture inside are for sale. Vintage from Zo Zo Goed Als Oud. There’s fresh juice and coffee and interesting bites on the menu. But… it was just a little too cluttered for me. A little way too much furniture inside, densely packed to be comfortable. I was most excited about their green power juice but it was not enough green juices and a little too much fruit juice. I’m still looking for a proper green juice place in Amsterdam but this was really more a fruit smoothie with some green veggies thrown in. The latte was huge and I did quite enjoy it.

A city can always use more Berlin/​vintage/​living room-​style café’s, and I personally think Amsterdam has way to few. My favorite one, Café Brecht, is always super crowded, so you can tell more people love them and the cozy feeling the old chairs and couches bring. So good news; a new living room like café has opened its doors!
De Ruyschkamer is a brand new place. The official opening did not even take place yet. The place is filled with vintage furniture (which is all for sale as well!) and has a nice cozy feeling. It does not have that granny feeling you get at Café Brecht, probably because there are white walls and mirrors here instead of old flower printed wallpapers, but it is a very cozy place as well. What I also like, is that around this place, there are not that many cafes yet, so it is awesome to now have such a cool hotspot around. Okay, I’ll do pro’s en con’s now. :)

— The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. There is also waiter service!
— When I ordered ‘Ruyschballen’ (meatballs) they also gave me some bread and aioli. Sweet!
— There are sooo many beers, also nice rosé beers and import beers!
— Lot’s of things to snack on the menu!

— Coffee! It includes a little piece of macaroon or chocolate! (by patisserie Tout, my favorite.)
— There is a juice bar! Awesome! You can order juice ’till closing time, which is so nice.
— Very cozy interior.
— Nice drinks like Club-​mate as well.

— The white wine was not so great. It was typical bar wine, if you know what I mean. Just go with beer, juice or something else.
Sounds nice right? It was. Not much to complain about :) I will be back soon!
