De Kas is without a doubt one of our favourite places to eat in Amsterdam. We love restaurants who know who they are and are aiming to deliver something beyond a pretty plate of food(their food is still very, very pretty). De Kas’ focus is on seasonally fresh food and they are serious about it, the restaurant is located in a greenhouse and they run their own farm just North of Amsterdam. Add this to the beautiful dinning room with HUGE glass roof, there’s no better places in Amsterdam for a long meal. They only offer a set menu, so just sit back and let them take good care of you(a dinner beside us one time was a gluten and lactose intolerant vegan, and they still manage to serve her some good looking food). Had an amazing experience. We did the 3 course dinner with the wine pairing. The food was exquisite and ingenious, the place was beautiful and the service was very attentive. The celery soup was out of this world, and the fish main dish melted in your mouth. I will definitely be back next time I’m in Amsterdam.

A great restaurant in a former park greenhouse. Produce grown on site and at their one acre farm. Tremendous service and friendly owner. Open kitchen and great mix of Dutch locals and tourists. Try the local craft beers with the quail or fresh fish. A unique dining experience which is very Dutch, friendly and features the finest local ingredients. Make sure to dine here at least once while in Amsterdam. Have a sweet plum on the road home.

Service is sub par. Wine was only offered once. As was water. We had to refill our glass with water from own bottle we brought in with us. Food was very basic and lacked any good sense of direction. And was very basic. A shot of espresso took a an uncomfortable amount of time.

Delicious meal in a beautiful, original restaurant. Sitting within a greenhouse the service was on point, we enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairing. Every dish perfectly prepared and timed our favorites were the grilled zucchini/honeydew starter and the boneless pork with lightly fried gnocchi. You must make the trip to eat here!

What a place! Food combinations here are like nothing I’ve ever had. I felt like I was eating at a place on the Netflix show«Chef’s Table»! A touch fancy but not snobby. Farm to table — literally. Peruse the garden before dinner and see the Bees going nuts on the flowers. Great vegetarian options too. I bet they can do Vegan if you ask, but no promises. Amazing light and atmosphere. We biked here from the Canal Zone and it was long but lovely. I’d love to go back. Do it!

The food here is awesome! They have a green house connected to the building. So all of the ingredients they use is fresh from the garden. The food is not cheap, starting at around 75 euros for a 4 course meal and about 25 euro for a bottle of wine.

This is our second time at this lovely restaurant. A great concept with greenhouses adjoining the restaurant. Everything is fresh and I believe the produce is all organic. Everything is grown there or locally acquired. Service is outstanding. The food is excellent and very unique. It will make you love vegetables if you don’t already. But don’t worry they serve meat as well. We will go back whenever we visit.

Who wouldn’t want to eat lunch or dinner in a huge sunny green house in a beautiful park, in comfortable chairs and with great service? It’s hard not to love De Kas, simply for the place and the desire to serve fresh, preferably organic, and local produce. De Kas has their own kitchen garden(the beautiful kind) right next to the restaurant and a vegetable field(the productive kind) outside the city. This supplies the restaurant with fresh vegetables. And yes, you probably guessed right, there is a huge focus on the vegetables here. For lunch with had the 2-course lunch menu, which is actually three small starters and a main course. Except for two pieces of fish and a few small shrimps, it was an orgy in fresh lightly prepared vegetables making up some rather nice and rustic dishes. Here the vegetables are the main attraction, leaving the fish to feel secondary. It’s good, but not exceptional, though it could be with bit more attention to enhancing the taste. The cheese platter was exceptional. Three very different Dutch cheeses with some apricots marinated in fennel and a gorgeous syrup. If I hadn’t figured out at this point that Dutch cheese could be very interesting, then I definitely had the opportunity here. This was definitely the star of our lunch, so much so that I find it hard to remember much about the following dessert(a cheesecake-like thing with strawberries, as far as I remember), that was a tad boring, even though I’m writing this just a few days after you visit. The wine pairing with the food was nice, though not particularly memorable or innovative. The most interesting was the Dutch wine paired with the main course. The presentation of the wine varied a lot. I might be able to decide for myself, if I think a wine pairing is good, but I would actually like to know why a restaurant choose to pair a particular wine with my food. Not because I need experts or a show, but simply because I love the story behind, particularly with a restaurant that clearly care about the origin of what they serve. However, I have to note that two of the waiters clearly out-shined their colleagues in every possible way, smiling, helpful and very informative about the food and the wine.

De Kas is a stunning restaurant located just outside central Amsterdam(exceptionally easy to get to by tram!). The property was gorgeous and we went a bit before our reservation time to walk around the herb and vegetable gardens and greenhouse. The dining area is also beautiful and the perfect place to eat a long, leisurely meal. I also can’t say enough wonderful things about the staff. Each staff member that we interacted with throughout the night could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The concept of the restaurant(farm to table) was thoroughly explained, as was each course and each wine. The meal was also perfectly paced, as we are slow eaters and enjoy breathing time in between each course. We ended up being there for 2.5 hours and did not feel rushed at any point. We chose to do the wine pairing with the meal(4 glasses of different wines), as well as the Dutch cheese course making this a four course meal. To start, was cauliflower soup. Next came the starters(two separate dishes) of asparagus and lamb and then salmon and beets. The main entrée was a white fish fillet with barley risotto and bokchoy. Dessert consisted of a cream parfait with cookie crumble and rhubarb compote. What fresh, delicious flavors in each dish. Gorgeous presentation, too, with little greens and petals as garnish. My only suggestion is that each dish had so many flavors going on at once that perhaps simplifying some of it may have been helpful. Also, some may have a hard time here as the menu is set by the chef(although it can be changed for vegetarians, etc), but we did not find this to be a problem at all. The whole experience was just lovely.

Hands down one of the best meals we had while in Europe this past summer. Service was great — we started with a local Dutch sparkling white wine and fresh cucumbers/pickles and olives, overlooking the amazing green and lush property. Then we were brought into the greenhouse like restaurant with windows everywhere. We had the tasting menu + wine pairing. It was amazing. The ingredients tasted so fresh, and the flavours were fantastic. We had a blast. Will come back for sure if ever in Amsterdam again.

Holy moly what a meal! This restaurant will ruin vegetables for you forever. This restaurant(as you may already know) is situated inside a greenhouse, and their philosophy is all about locally sourced vegetables as the highlight to every meal. Their summer meals are 90+% locally sourced, and their winter meals are 60+% locally sourced. They grow a lot of the fruits and vegetables they use in the greenhouse as well as on a local farm run by the owners of this restaurant. Each meal is a fixed price 3 course meal, highlighting local seasonal vegetables with available accomodations for allergies or other requirements. The menu will change from day to day or week to week depending on what’s available locally. There is also an option for wine pairings(2 wines or 4 wines) with each meal. In addition, there is an extensive wine list if you’d like to order something a la carte. The location is a bit south(2 – 3 miles) from the central part of Amsterdam, but it’s an easy bike ride(on a nice day) or taxi ride at night or on a cold day. If you’re wondering, yes it totally is worth the trip. There is plenty of bike parking right outside the restaurant. If it’s a nice day and you’re early for your reservation(or have some time afterwards), it’s a lovely walk around the greenhouse — complete with a pond and a bridge and lots of greenery through a paved pathway. The service here is wonderful, and the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu items and where all the ingredients are sourced from. The meal is served at a slow pace, and each dish is introduced as it is brought out. Our meal for the evening started with some root vegetables, then a soup, two vegetable appetizers, a main dish(duck with vegetables), and dessert(rhubarb pie and compote with ice cream). A delightful meal, a wonderful experience, you need to eat here.

We had dinner here with work colleagues after dark so I can’t compliment the grounds but the interior was beautiful and open. From the moment we walked we were treated well, the food was divine, and the wine list extensive. They have wonderful vegetarian options as well as enough meat to satisfy a carnivore on their set menu. Be prepared to relax and eat, the service was slow enough to let you enjoy your company.

Have cocktails and olives outdoors, strolling with wine through the garden, before dinner. Totally unrushed. Beautiful greenhouse building, glass everywhere, blown glass sculptures hanging from the ceiling. Dangerously generous portions on the wine pairing. Walk through the greenhouses to see gigantic tomato plants. Very solid food, though strangely reminiscent of an American Thanksgiving dinner.

Wonderful experience, from the walk over the bridge, the artlike grounds, the high ceilinged restaurant in a former greenhouse, and the thoroughly enjoyable meal. One menu, food changes daily, focused on fresh Mediterranean-style produce. Our menu for the evening is below, and they do make accommodations for vegetarians: — leek, potato soup — 2 appetizers, one quiche based, other eggplant — main veal dish — pumpkin cannoli(vegetarian for spouse) — parfait with beet gel base, dark chocolate, hazelnut crunch, yogurt foam, and salted caramel ice cream The above includes fresh produce and flavorings that greatly enhance the meal. Not cheap, but surprisingly inexpensive. Varied crowd, young and old, international. Upscale but relaxed.

This is one of those restaurants that make you want to return to Amsterdam over and over again. Well, that, the Van Gogh Museum and the great, ahem… cafes. Built in a kwekerij, or greenhouse — the setting of windows, light, indoor and outdoor trees, wide open, gleaming floors and a huge, vaulted glass ceiling — the dining area itself is something to behold and a beautiful place for dinner, the building being in a wooded lot across a bridge next to a canal. The food changes every night, you get three courses and they are always based on what is in the garden, what is in season and how well they do and do not pair together. While I could describe that our set three course menu with amuse bouche in between and a wine pairing if you chose it — was incredible — the one theme we found in the three times we have visited is the ingredients. Whether red or white meats, sprouts, turnips, beets and carrots in winter or peas in warmer weather — each ingredient has been ridiculously good, like — these are the best carrots I ever had, or these are the best roasted beets I have ever had, best pea soup I have ever had, etc, etc. Every dish/course we have had has been very, very good and impeccably prepared. One bonus I have come to enjoy is not knowing what is for dinner, just the anticipation that it is likely going to be more than f… ing awesome.

Unique dining experience — it’s a farm to table type restaurant inside a green house in a park! Atmosphere is lively, upscale but not stuffy. Food is fresh and innovative. Service is friendly but can be uneven at times. You get a 3 course dinner basically. Our food overall was good. The main entrée was a fish tonight with some veggies which ended up being too salty cause of anchovies that came with it. The portions were large for such a nice restaurant though. We did ask for tap water three times(after already paying for a bottle water) and only on the 3rd time did we get it. Then again, it was very busy and there were a lot of large groups. Nonetheless, I’d come back here. I think it’s a good value for the price(it’s high but you’re getting a great dining experience). It’s not quite Michelin star service but you are paying probably half the price so that’s what you get.

When in Amsterdam, go here. Don’t think about. Don’t check Trip Advisor to double check reviews. Just make a reservation and go. I brought my mother here after her cancer treatment completion after a friend recommended it. It turned out to be the best meal of my life. Yes. That may sound like an exaggeration. Pshhh. It’s nothing but the truth. We had the chef’s table in the kitchen where I harassed poor Chef Axl for several hours(wine pairings will do that to a girl). I can’t even remember how many courses I had, maybe 7. Everything is divine. The food is freshly picked from the greenhouse and garden on site. The wine is spectacular. The kitchen staff is amazing(Tommy was my favorite, we shared pictures on our iPhones of our little ones). For a Southern girl, I had my favorite flavors during dessert… rhubarb, strawberry, and lemon. It’s like they knew how to woo me. Spolier alert: it totally worked, I’m in love. Go here now.

I won’t make this lengthy because it’s all pretty much covered in the reviews that precede mine. A beautiful Dutch man treated me to a date at this restaurant. From the moment you walk into the greenhouse, it is a 5-star experience. The staff are professional and warm with grace. The setting is beautiful — very cozy, beautiful open space, greenery around you, nice table setting, open kitchen. For such a nice restaurant, you are subjected to a pretentious vibe whatsoever. It’s laid back without losing the feeling that you’re somewhere special. And the food: OH… MY…GOD. Seriously. Absolutely decadent. DECADENT. I’m a vegetarian and the veggie dining experience here is dreamy. They suggest wines for each course, or you can choose your own. In my opinion, they nailed it with their chosen wines and to not have to decide was just awesome. I can’t wait to return. Definitely a great spot for a date.
