Café Kobalt

I’d say it’s a real dutch kind of bar. Cozy place, good beer and interesting snacks. It also has a nice location facing central station canals. So, overall worth a visit.

Sometimes you have to eat humble pie. But humble pie is not at all bad, so I don’t know why people look down on it.
For years, I ignored this place. It was too close to Central Station to be anything other than a tourist trap or an ex-​pat hangout. I was wrong. I discovered about ten years ago that this place was quite authentic. Quite comfortable. Had a good choice of beers. Good food. Good service.
Some people would just kijk themselves for having missed the opportunity to visit this place sooner, but I revelled in the knowledge that I had discovered a gem. I’ve eaten here many times and have rarely been disappointed. It’s not haute cuisine but it’s good fare. I’ve drank everything that comes out of the taps and the choice is one of the reasons to come back here. After all, this is one of the few places offereing Amsterdam BrewBoys ales on tap. (The bar owner is one of the owners of that brewery if rumours be correct.)
Worth avoiding on Friday evening when there is neither room to sit nor stand. But any other day and, in fact, any time of day, just drop in for a good beer and a bite to eat.

Solid food, good option. Convenient as can be – just a couple blocks from centraal station, and even accessible by pedestrian bridge. Loved the atmosphere — casual but not grungy. Liked my tomato soup starter. Liked my fish main a lot too. Reasonable value. Overall a keeper. Worth 4.5 stars.

Went here for lunch based on Unilocal reviews. Lovely place, great drink selection and nice food. Very close to the station and had a good ambiance. Service was a bit slow but we weren’t in a rush so didn’t matter! Would go back again.

Great place with good ambience. Service was attentive, and the menu has something for everyone at good price point. We even had a visit from the house cat!

I come here quite often i might say. but to let me as a regular wait for my bloody cappucino for 20 minutes is ridiculous.

So glad we found this place! As a group of 8 on a Friday night with no reservations and by Centraal Station, we weren’t sure where to end up! But we walked in and were seated in about 5 minutes at the large table by the door. Very nice space with a great atmosphere. There were a lot of tapas options, but I got the burger which was better than many burgers I have had in Amsterdam. My husband had chips and salsa as a snack and the salsa was very good with just a little bit of kick to it. And the fries were good, but I never really know how to rate fries anymore.
The service was very good and faster than I expected due to the amount of people in the restaurant. Our server was on top of everything and I just mentioned that my husband would be coming in a bit, so she left an English menu for him and came over as soon as he arrive to get him a drink. It’s just a perfect spot to hang out. It’s simple and good. What more can you want?

I like the interior — large tables, good service, neat décor. It’s just easy — simple, nothing fancy, but definitely a safe bet for lunch or a meeting or a beer with friends.
it gets a bit busy so be there a little early to secure a table if you’re going for the dinner route.

The best food I’ve had in Amsterdam. Bold claim? Allow me to back it up.
A friend and I visited around 7:30 on a Friday night. It was busy inside and we waited inside awkwardly until clarifying that we wouldn’t be getting in. However, we realized there were some tables outside that were for the taking, so we took. Sitting outside with a heater in moderate temps was PERFECT, and we got to people-​watch aplenty.
Cutting to the chase:
For wine, we split a very reasonably priced bottle of the Hacienda Araucano Reserva cab — recommended. Then to split we ordered the cheese plate, Bitterballs (pronounced BIT-​eh-​balls) and masala hummus. Those damn balls were so good that in fact, my friend told me generously, «You can have the last ball,» and I responded immediately, «You’re such a good friend.»

So ein nettes Café — ach aus dem Schwärmen für die Amsterdamer Gastroszene komm ich ja ohnehin schwer wieder heraus — aber dieser Ort ist besonders gemütlich mit einem Schuss nordischem Flair. Große Ledercouchen auf massivem Holzfussboden zu unterschiedlichen Holztischen. Sehr familiäres Flair gibt’s hier. Wirkt es fast so als wären hier alle miteinander befreundet. Das Essen hab ich leider nicht wirklich probiert, meine Tomatensuppe war jedenfalls super und auch der Rest der Speisekarte machte Lust auf mehr.
Sehr praktisch gelegen ist das Kobalt auch mit der Nähe zum Hauptbahnhof. Für alle Touris die haben auch hübsche Airbnb Appartements — oder falls es mal wieder länger dauert, kann hier leicht passieren!

A café, right next to the train station and so close to the turistic areas? Must be a cheesy coffeshop. But no! Given its location, this is a surprisingly nice place to have a drink, and not that expensive. Great atmosphere! Can be a bit crowded sometimes given its alternatives around, but definitely check it if you’re nearby :)

Very crowded, definitely make sure to make an appointment, seems to be a very popular place, very close to the Central Station.

Was a pretty chill atmosphere and convenient location in Amsterdam, near the Centraal train station.
It’s a café with a bar, but they also serve good food.
We tried the onion soup — it was good, and a Dutch recipe. I also had a fish curry with various vegetables and herbs. The dish was a good size and very tasty, but a little pricey (€ 17).
Otherwise, the atmosphere was very chilled out, with evening lighting.

It’s alright. Friendly staff. I’d had a drink with friends before and it was ok despite the little bug (fruit fly?) in my friend’s wine. Came back today for a koffie verkeerd, which is weak with what tastes like boxed milk instead of the good ol’ Dutch milk. Will go elsewhere next time.
