Let me take you to a place that is undoubtedly the most child friendly eetcafe in Amsterdam. During the day and weekends it’s full of young parents and children. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff there. Child menus, high chairs, toys, you name it they’ve got it. That aside the place serves excellent food. Try the Kip Sate and the Tuna Melt, both very good. This place has great service, a nice atmosphere, and if you’re into beer they only offer beers from local Amsterdam breweries. During the evenings the atmosphere changes as a smattering of local professionals, and braying sorority types frequent the café. They also have a good evening menu including a super hamburger and the meal of the day is usually worth trying as well. If you’d like to eat or drink in a genuine Amsterdam local café, this is the place for you. Don’t be put off by all the children there during the day. There’s plenty of single women that frequent this bar who you can ask. «If we get together tonight, in ten months time we can revisit this café with our child, what do you think?»

We first came across Goos on a list of kid friendly establishments in Amsterdam. Being that it’s in the neighborhood, we had planned to go for some time but never got around to it. Today we just so happened to be down the street and looking for food, so we decided to give it a try. First things first, while I definitely like the place I do think the child friendliness is a bit disappointing, or perhaps more so overstated in articles it was featured in. Yes there are board games and menu items such as a babycino(whipped up milk froth) and peanut butter sandwiches, but the place itself is small with little space to even comfortably roll a stroller inside. Aside from that, if Pink’s «F**king Perfect» is played in it’s uncensored form I think somewhere there’s a disconnect with what’s actually kid friendly. Luckily our son is young enough for us to not have to explain the above mentioned AND we came in at a quiet time. I was very impressed with the variety of the menu. Not only are there several vegetarian options, there’s a choice of gluten free breads for your sandwiches and even gluten free beers. We decided to go for the veggie burger, which is always a gamble in Amsterdam as I feel it’s a commonly misunderstood sandwich amongst Dutch restaurants. I’m happy to say that Goos is not one of them. The burger was delicious and came with a big heap of roasted vegetables on top. Actually, there are several«gourmet» burger spots in Amsterdam that make veggie options that are far behind this one! The staff was friendly and overall there was a great vibe here, despite the minor con mentioned above I’ll definitely be back.

Nice café. The crowd is very ‘Oud-zuid’. Yes, you do recognize them :) They serve very nice sandwiches! And this is a very comfortable place for a coffee or a lunch(or even breakfast!). Good choice when your in the neighbourhood.

This is a friendly neighborhood hang out. It’s well lit and though its usually busy it rarely seems overly crowded. There is wifi and I enjoy the atmosphere. There are tables outside, seats at the bar and a large window that looks out on the street. It’s also child friendly which can be good or bad depending on your mood and time of day. This place grows on me every time so add another half star.

This is my favorite hangout in the Rivierenbuurt area. The people who work here are really nice and the atmosphere is cozy & hip. The food is delicious with generous portions and everything is aesthetically pleasing. They also have a nice, reasonably priced drink menu. Try the shiraz malbec red. It’s really great after a long chilly day .
