Amazing place with very friendly people. They specialize in American beers. I had beer they’re I’ve never seen in the states. Sat next to a woman who brewed the beer I was drinking. Really great atmosphere.

So I would have loved this place for the beer except for the people who work there. Rude and the place is dirty. The manager was especially rude towards the American in our group. Would not go back.

It’s an OK place if you want to experience a dirty pub kinda thing. Yeah, they have a CRAZY number of kinds of beers but I don’t really know if I would be in the mood for sticky tables any time I want to have the option to pick and choose from their menu of beers. I don’t want to be unfair so I’ll just say this: I was really tired and wanted to stop by here before I headed home to grab a couple of beers. Maybe that’s why the sticky tables bothered me that much. But yeah, their menu of beers is really, truly, seriously CRAZY! :)

Best beer bar in Amsterdam. When you’re finally sick of endless Heineken, this is the place to go. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about all the beers they serve. When you are craving a real American IPA, there’s no other place I’ve found in Amsterdam with the selection the Beer Temple has.

This isn’t a bad bar, just a bit misleading as you don’t expect half the drafts here to be American beers. I guess it’s kind of cool to see your local American breweries make it all the way out here but I wanted more local flavor and less of what I can already get at home. Anyway, the setting inside is a bit dark, but otherwise comfortable. This is a solid place to stop in for a beer and relax your legs for a bit from a day of museum and city sight seeing. 3.5 stars.

This is truly an amazing bar in Amsterdam, they have a ton of options from all over the world. Many of their beers they have, you can get in America, so it is perfect for Americans visiting and wanting options instead of the typical Heineken, although nothing wrong with drinking Heineken, but why when you have options here, amiright? The staff is also nice and helpful.

Man, easily one of two amazing bars I went to in Amsterdam that weren’t just breweries. This place had one heck of a selection. It all points to the Westvleteren 12, the beer I had dreamed of though. I finally had it here. What a night to remember. This place has oh so much. You’ll never wanna leave Amsterdam.

This is one of the best bars for Kraft beer loves in town! I came here as part of a beer festival and loved this place. I would particularly recommend Norwegian Norge O beer and the M.O.L.E imperial Russian stout in particular was spectacular! If you like beer that tastes like a mix between Christmas, chocolate, tiramisu and espresso — this beer in particular is for you. Their beer selection in general is excellent and it’s not just American beers as I would take from some other reviews. Their American Kraft beer selection however is excellent and they have a large Brooklyn brewery sign outside. For a local beer, I’d recommend the Big Fat Double 5 by Het Uiltje. They have a number of different beers including Scottish Brew Dog and Danish Brett Rocking Brewing as well as local beers and plenty of American. If you like your beers, this is a must try!

I love that US beer is of some renown here, truly people need to see the amazing variety that the US has to offer during its beer renaissance outside of Budweiser and miller. This place has an immense selection of the best stuff from both coasts, Colorado and Michigan. Beer paraphernalia is sprawled everywhere and a cool Brooklyn Brewery sign adorns the outside.

We came from Denver, CO. After touring Germany and Belgium this was a nice oasis to have American beers we can’t get in Colorado. The staff and fellow tourists were fun and informative of our travels. We were directed to a nearby bottle shop to pickup some Belgian Trappist beers we can rarely get in the states. Those we shared with our friends back home.

This place: wow. A really, really remarkable beer selection tucked into this crowded bar. Helpful tip: if you’re American, you can get most of these beers back home. That being said, it’s still totally worth your time. I hadn’t tried MANY of these, and let’s just say I have had a few beers in my day.(Seriously, in just 1 day.) Here’s what I tried: Green Petrol black IPA, Tempelbier, Global by Nogne, CHRA single hop by Nogne, India Saison by Nogne. Okay, I guess I tried a lot of Nogne. I personally prefer hoppy beers, so some of these were just tastes. This bar hosts a lot of events, too. Check it out on quirky days, like Halloween or St. Patrick’s Day.(Yes, they are mildly celebrated in some areas.) But don’t start out your beer-ventures here if you’re a visiting American — go to a more local-beer-serving location, like Bierproeflokaal in de Wildeman. Cheers!

Cool spot in the middle of Amsterdam. Bring a beer drinker from Portland, this was one off top spots to visit on our first day of travel. It was great. We arrived around 2:30, and there were only two other people inside. Nice to have some room to hangout with our group of three. The beer selection is obviously AMAZING. We all tried local beers, and one from Belgium. Prices are good also, that you can try a few different kinds for a fun experience and not be out too much money. Also the meat and cheese selection is nice, and goes well while sipping on some beers. Also, great bartender! He was really nice, patient with our questions and attentive.

This is a retrospective review of one of my favourite bars in the world — a place I’ve spent ridiculous amounts of time in over the years and I just can’t get enough of! I may have been to Amsterdam around 15 times but I only discovered this place(thanks to my intensive researching wife) a few years back and have never looked back. These guys are all about the craft beer, in fact it’s a complete mecca, temple whatever you want to call it to quality ales. On tap there must be 25 beers — ranging from the American greats, to rarities and enjoyable brews from Mikkeller and Brewdog amongst many others. Ok so craft beer is expensive but it’s still cheaper/better beer than what you’d pay for a Heineken in the red light district. The bottle fridge is awesome too — I’ve enjoyed a large bottle of B.O.R.I.S.T.H.E.C.R.U.S.H.E.R from hopping frog many a time with friends. Even though it’s slim there’s still plenty of room in here and the back is a great place to grab a booth and play a game. Outside there’s also seating for around 20 — making it the perfect place for a sunny day. The staff are knowledgable, friendly, pragmatic and also no nonsense — Dutch people and Dutch bar staff just rock! I can’t wait to get back to the Beer Temple sometime soon — it’ll be the first place I head to when I arrive in Centraal station.

Good music, relaxed atmosphere and an impressive selection of American beers. If you’re looking for something more Dutch, go to their sister bar«Arend’s nest». Nevertheless worth a try even for the skeptics. For some weird reason(place is fairly small) I could always get a seat, even on the weekends.

If you an American who is in Amsterdam on vacation, you can probably skip this stop. If you are not or you are an American living in The Netherlands and looking for a little piece of home then this is your place. I have actually been here before explaining my favorite IPA to someone and saying how you can never get it anywhere in the city and at that exact moment I saw a sign next to me saying they had it as a special that month. Fun little surprises like that are what keep me going back. If you follow them on Facebook also you will get to join fun events once in a while. In October of this last year they had a pumpkin beer tasting which was a lot of fun. Actually most months or weeks they have some sort of tasting or another. There is also a terrace if the weather is alright and the views are alright. It’s a quick hop from Dam Square to get there by any means. If you’re on the hunt for American micro brews you know where to start now.

Everyone writes this off as being touristy or only having American beers… neither is true. You won’t find any Dutch beer here since the owner owns another all Dutch beer bar(Arden’s nest) but you will frequently find great craft beer here from all over the world. Lots of very rare hard to find beers that you can’t get out of very specific markets. They also host a lot tastings and are very knowledgable. If you are a fan of great beer this is the place… if you want Budweiser or Heineken go back to Dam Square!

Some Amsterdam beer bars mostly focus on Dutch beer, which is understandable. Beer Temple, on the other hand, is a hardcore American-style beer geek’s bar right in the heart of the city. If I was living in Amsterdam as an American ex-pat, I’d hit Beer Temple to help stave off homesickness. The Beer Temple is not a European beer bar… it truly does have more in common with the Toronado, Map Room or Redlight Redlight than anything in the Old World. It has that familiar, well-worn American craft beer dive bar feel, with totems of its inherent beer cred all over the place… it’s a working love letter to America’s craft beer scene. This place has Lost Abbey bottles coming out of its ears, and many other ridiculous American craft bottles I don’t even get in Florida. They even have freakin’ Three Floyds’ Dark Lord. At an absurd price that I would never pay, mind you… something like 85 Euros for a bottle if I recall correctly. It’s not THAT good. But they have it. Thankfully, they have plenty of other drafts and bottles at much more reasonable prices. I fought the urge to drink American, and went with the Mikkeller SpontanCherry Frederiksdal. Made with unique Danish Frederiksdal cherries, it ranks as one of the better fruit sour beers I’ve ever had, and that’s saying something. Not cheap, but hey, at least it wasn’t 85 Euros. And at least I didn’t come all the way to Amsterdam only to order beers from California or Chicago. By any beer aficionado’s rankings, a phenomenal beer bar. Just don’t expect some authentic Dutch beer experience, as this is very much like stepping into a portal to America.

Beer Temple was just what we were looking for in Amsterdam. We were bored of all the normal tourist bars or pubs selling pints of Amstel or Heineken. I found BT on Unilocal and we made our way straight there. If you like craft beer then you will love this place. Literally hundreds of craft beer options split between bottled and draft. I got the chance to try several American beers that I had not heard of before. The barman was very friendly. Willing to chat and advise on beers tastes and origins. You could sample them all before buying and he even brought out a 400 euro bottle(yes for one beer!) called utopia for us to have a look at. Sadly I did not get to try it. The bar has free wi fi and a good area to sit outside and watch the world go by when it is sunny. If you like craft beer — you will love Beer Temple! The best bar I have visited in Amsterdam on my three visits so far.

Mmmm… beer. We visited Beer Temple’s sister bar, Arendsnest, and they told us we might want to give Beer Temple a try for an assortment of American craft brews. We took their word for it and were so happy we did. Beer Temple has a seriously impressive assortment of American craft beer and then some. We’re from Chicago and live very close to Three Floyds brewery in Munster, Indiana. To our surprise Beer Temple had several Three Floyds beers… collaborations with Mikkeller that are available in the states but also a couple collaborations that we had never seen before. Super exciting. I guarantee that no matter what your beer preference, you’ll be able to find something that suits your fancy here. Friendly, helpful bartenders and delicious salty snacks really rounded out our experience here at Beer Temple, highly recommend!

Cool place to go to drink some different beers. Now I know what a lot of Europeans think about when they hear the words«American Beer» crappy watered down tasteless garbage. Well, some beers yes, but this bar specialized in American micro brews. This is a totally different category than things like Miller, Coors, and Budweiser. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure they do not even have these beers there. You can find all the beers that they have one tap(~30) labeled behind the bar and all the beers they have in bottles(~100) along the back wall. The selection is always changing so that makes if even more fun to stop back often. The staff is always very nice and helpful if you don’t know what you want. Me being an American, was pretty surprised on my first couple trips here. I could not believe that I was seeing some of the beers that I knew from home at little breweries showing up in Europe. The crowd here is pretty international but there are usually also at least some Dutch. This bar tends to be more crowded in the early evening that later on at night.
