I came here on a search for Surinamese Chinese food. Their popular dish is called mekti moksi which has beef covered in a tasty brown looking sauce. We also ordered some duck noodle soup which tasted very Chinese. the only thing that annoyed me was that once our check came they cleared off our whole table and we haven’t even finished our food. We even ran into our taxi driver who looked a lot like Russell Peters. he sat at our table and also verify how authentic this place is.

I didn’t think I had any more reviews left in me for the year but here goes! When the local Vietnamese was shut for Christmas, we crossed the tram tracks and discovered this little hole in the wall by accident as we noticed streams of people walking in and more sitting inside. A cheery gentleman on the way out informed us, this is not a place for fancy but a place for feasting! Needless to say, we were sold! The little Asian ladies behind the counter were welcoming and super friendly and quickly offered us their giant menu in English. Now where to begin, it took us over 10 minutes to read and exclaim over the menu and a further 10 minutes to decide what we wanted. Within moments of ordering, our food was at the table. And the food is as you’d expect– whole, hearty and filling! Bonus points are given because it was dirt cheap! Do try all the different sauces that are on the table with your dishes, we discovered 4 different kinds during our visit! To wrap it up(in all its delicious glory) — this is great food without the fuss and is an absolute bargain, so we’re definitely adding this place to the rotation!

you know the place that everyone goes to in the neighborhood because it’s so popular and more on the expensive side? well this joint is not that place. it’s the hidden gem next to that place that no one knows about and well shouldn’t know about but i’ll share my little secret. I’d like to call this my asian diner. nothing fancy, nothing expensive, just about all the dishes are great(at least the ones i’ve had) and the place is very clean with friendly service and great prices. Added plus, yummy sauces on each table. my favorite is their spicy garlic oil with chunks of garlic and red pepper that i drizzle on everything! every time i come here, i end up drooling at some other dish that comes out of the kitchen to the person sitting next to me… major case of food envy everytime! soda lovers: you can get a 12oz can for 1 euro… hallo!!!

Great ‘hole in the wall’ type place in de pijp! I walked by the«nieuw» Albina and it didn’t look busy at all compared to the original. Although I’m sure at both places you’ll be served and fed well. The portions are massive and they serve a mix of Surinamese and Indonesian. We got the curry chicken roti and it was actually spicy(A first since I’ve been here). It also came with a side of potatoes and green beans. it was literally overflowing on my plate. It’s more than enough for one person and likely suitable to share between 2. We also got the Moksi Meti. The two together are more than enough for you to slouch and loosen your belt. The décor is nothing to write home about. It’s fairly basic so don’t bring your ladies here on the 1st date boys!

I was in Amsterdam for a short trip during a blustery, cold week of March. After a long day of meetings in a city that closes early, I was worried I’d have to go to bed hungry. Albina came to my rescue as a place that stays open until 10pm. I trekked there from Central Amsterdam(not a long trip at all) and was delighted to find the menu was in both Dutch and English(I think) and was extensive. Many options were available. To warm my soul and fill me up, I went with the lamb roti, which came quickly and was piping hot. The plate was piled high, the meat was tender, the potatoes and green beans perfectly cooked, and the roti itself was fresh and delicious. The staff wasn’t overly concerned with me — it’s just not that kind of place — but they weren’t ignoring me. The overhead fluorescents and the white tile floor prevented me from feeling cozy, and the lively, youthful patrons added a measure of loudness, but not a bothersome kind. I will be going back to Albina soon: late one night when the rest of Amsterdam’s good eateries are closed and shuttered.
