Just to explain: Albert Heijn to go is a little brother of the bigger supermarket Albert Heijn. You’ll find them in stations, on busy streets and in the airport. The name«to go» means you can buy things you need as you go. Do not expect to find a full assortment here. Just the basics, including a toothbrush, toilet paper and garbage bags. It’s not meant to do your weekly shopping. You really can’t buy everything you need AND the prices are much higher. If you need to do big shopping in the center(or if you want to spend less) go to the big Albert Heijn behind the palace on Dam square(Nieuwe Zijdsvoorburgwal). It’s just 3 minutes walking. Having said this all, this Albert Heijn to go DOES have a sushi bar. Fresh sushi is being prepared in the middle of the busy center. Whereas I would never recommend to eat anywhere on Damrak(packed with low quality tourist traps) this sushibar is an exception. The sushi is really good and the price as well.

Súper convenient store located right downtown Amsterdam. Perfect for tourist on-the-go. Inexpensive, selected assortment, with all options of grab-and-go salads, pasta salad, hummus, vegetables, sushi, pastries and more. Do not expect to do you shopping here, or you may encounter a line of tourists and workers. I must admit the line moves pretty fast considering the store demand. On the downside, it only accepts certain credit cards. MasterCard and Visa are not accepted, so have cash ready! If you happen to have a lock credit card you can use the self check out and skip the line :) To note, the shrimp pasta salad tasted like gotten out of a restaurant(perhaps I was too hungry, although it was still very good). Sushi is acceptable. Coffee and teas are also offered. Perfect for chilly days!

Need a sandwich? Need a cup of coffee? Need other drinks or items? Albert Heijn to go is the place to be. Right at the lip of the long Damrak street heading toward Centraal Station, AHtg will allow you to pick up what you need before you’re inundated with the endless stores of crap and fast food as you head toward the trains. Of course, the locals tell me that the AH chain is one of the most expensive anyway, so I guess it fits right in?
