Have to say it was a waste of 5 ½ hours, golf course was presented well below par, greens were super fury and patchy (to bare mud) and covered in unrelated pitch marks, there were leaves all over the course and greens and it was visibly apparent they were way behind in their course maintenance.
Being used to playing 4 hour rounds it was very frustrating to play this for 5 ½ hours (at one stage there were 4 groups on a single hole) I guess I’m used to having courses marshalled to ensure a steady pace of play

Stressed out? Come and hit some balls — the driving range is open until 11pm!
Their 220 metre double storey driving range offers 48 covered bays. The range is fully floodlit to enable practice long after the light has faded.
The driving range is very well priced — at the moment the night-​time special is $ 10 for 100 balls — and the automatic tee’s are a bonus. But I would recommend bringing your own clubs, the clubs that are available for hire aren’t very good.
There is a shop on-​site that will cater for all of your golfing needs.
And lastly — good access off the motorway and great parking!

Dude, I love smashing golf balls. There is something deeply satisfying about feeling the connect between aluminum and ball, watching it disappear into the distance. For only like $ 10 they give you 100 balls, talk about a cheap, entertaining way to kill an afternoon. The strange thing about smashing golf balls is that I can never predict how my game is going to be. Sometimes I am a champion and I can effortless smash every ball without trying. Then there are other times when I can’t seem to clear my head, and it is just miss after miss after miss. Can be a risky place to take a date, might be having an uncoordinated day.

As far as public golf courses go, Takapuna presents itself quite well. With a good driving range and a well stocked pro shop, the club delivers on course and off it. The course plays best in springtime when the grass is green and the hundreds of trees in full bloom. In winter times it can get a bit soggy underfoot, and in summer months it could be a bit dry. Great if you’re a long hitter.
What I like about this course, is that on the first you can really let loose on a wide fairway, and they seem to get narrower as the course continues. There is an eagle chance or two on two short-​ish par fives and there are a couple of holes where you can make your move on the score card.
