Love all of Auckland’s night markets — the place really does feel like a proper city when you have masses of people out at night sampling various local delights! Takapuna’s night market is one of my favourites, and runs every Thursday night through summer. Unlike other night markets it’s not set in a mall car park — it’s in the lovely Hurstmere Green, a recently renovated public space in the centre of Taka between the mall and the beach so you can throw a walk/swim in too. It makes for a perfect setting — plenty of space for stalls, and plenty of grassy spots and wooden recliners to sit on and watch the musicians and dancers they get to perform. The stalls are great — lots of produce and street food on offer — as others have said the Sweet Chimneys are the bees knees. Just love the community feel at this one. Also I met CJ Bruton here too — awesome.

The Takapuna Night Market is just a perfect opportunity to sample some tasty local food stalls and see what the crafty designers are making and selling at the stalls. I popped in early to the markets and watched them set up this afternoon as the bright fall sun beamed happily away, and could sense a real peace and serenity of the community markets. Stall owners happily chit chatted away to each other, as they completed last minute preparation of food. I walked past a organic fruit stall from Kumeu named Fruit Bros the two guys selling apples, pears, and green and purple grapes were young hip guys, and raved that they had spray free organic fruit. They gave me a free apple for my little one to have, and since I was out of fruit at home, I promised them I would return with some cash from the ATM. I love the setting, it’s relaxed, and placed right on and around Hurstmere Green, you have a lot of neat natural wooden seats to chill on, and beautiful trees and plants surround the grounds. I love the variety of food as well– Indian, Mexican, European, to name a few and lots of delicious dessert stalls too, they have the Spanish Churros stall which is to die for. A perfect finish to a hard worked Thursday.

Perfect for a Thursday night. You know when it is Thursday night and you feel slightly restless because it is the end of the week? But you do not want to do anything too taxing because you have work the next day? Head down to the Takapuna Night Market. I love the atmosphere here, still very chilled out, but compared to markets which run during the day there is slightly more energy in the air. Having the market at night also gives it a completely different aesthetic, all the stalls lit up and quite a lot of the punters well groomed. Whether or not you decide to purchase anything does not really matter, it is just a buzzy place to walk around for 20 min.

Possibly the cutest markets out there, Takapuna Markets are a great way to spend an evening. Every Thursday they start at 5pm and carry on till the light fades and the people go home. They aren’t big, but everything that’s here is great. Yummy food, cute knick knacks and fresh produce. There is also live music, and it’s right next door to Movenpick sooooooo perfect. The people running the stalls are lovely and just seem generally happy to be there. We picked up some Churros, delicious cheese and a couple of gourmet doggie biscuits for the pooch. Seriously, these look so delicious I was pretty close to eating one. It takes place in the newly renovated space In the middle of Takapuna and is just up the road from the beach. Lovely.

Takapuna Beach Night Markets are not to be missed! Happening every Thursday night in the summer season from 5pm to 9pm, they bring together both locals and newcomers to the area to consume street food and just have a jolly good time! While day markets are cool too, night markets tend to have a completely different atmosphere. All the stalls lit up against the inky blackness, in the balmy humidity that constitute Auckland summer nights is a really cool sight to see and is popular for this very reason. Watch out for the Austrian specialty sweet treat ‘Sweet Chimneys ’ –so good they make me happy when skies are grey. If you choose too you could also whip down to Takapuna Beach for a night swim while your in the area too if the mood takes you!
